Just installed the touring bike carrier. It was actually a bit cheaper than I though and also looks better than I thought too.

Ill be removing it when I am not using it though.

Cool rack. I have a 228ix but carry my bike on a hitch rack behind my X3. I can carry 3 bikes but usually only carry 2. Good idea taking it off on that nice ride.

Nice. I am wondering if I can't simply cut down the cross rails on my 5-series roof rack, since the other fittings are just the same and only the width seems to be a bit less. Good idea to take the rack off when you are not using it, as it uses a ton of extra fuel for the wind resistance.

What bike do you have? I have a Specialized epic expert carbon. The first time I put the bike up I was afraid it would fall off and damage my car. It held like a champ. Your car looks great with those wheels!

I've got a pretty beefy downhill freeride bike. I was more worried about the tube positioning than the weight.

It's a Nukeproof Mega Am, good ole Canadian bike.

I like the convenience of that, but I didn't want to have the tow hitch frame on the ba k of my car.

This thread is just perfect timing. I'm in the market to get a rack for my mountain bike but would definitely prefer something that is not on the roof or the trailer.

My friends have the clip on type of racks which can be removed when not needed. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I have the following criteria in order of importance:
1, Absolutely no damage to the car. The main reason I don't want one in the roof is that I might scratch something while taking down my bike or putting it there.
2, Something that is removable so I can take it off when not using it.
3, Something that is light, sturdy and hold 1 large full suspension bike.

1- the BMW roof rack will not damage the car. It's easy to load and unload.
2- it's really easy to install and remove in a matter of minutes. It's only 4 bolts on the rails.
3- it holds my full suspension without any problems

You don't want to drive around with it on all the time. It makes ALOT of noise.

Confirmed as of last night.

Mine came with some rubber strips to put in the top of the racks too. I am hoping these will reduce wind noise.

Oh good haha.

Good news is I popped the bike carrier and rack off in about 2 minutes and 35 seconds. 4 bolts and that's it.

Also I love how it locks on the car so it would be more difficult to steal. Also cool how you can lock the bike clamp to make the bike harder to steal if you were to run into a store for a little bit

Very nice. That just might be a record.

I'm looking for a kayak rack for the 2. I need to be able to take the fishing rig out when the wife needs her suv.

Hi all,
I was also looking for a neat solution to carry my bikes and I didn't want a roof rack as I already had a nice hitch rack (1-up USA) and hate to carry dirty wheels inside my car. (I race cyclocross).

I just had a Curt hitch installed on my 228i M Sport and it looks fantastic. You can barely see it from the back. They had to trim about 1/2 inch to the underside of the bumper but they did a super clean job and you can't see it unless you look under the car.

I got the hitch from etrailer for $115 (C11367)

There is a kayak rack option for the roof rails. I was looking at that too
