17 inch rims
Hi guys,
Does anyone know where to purchase/order 17" rims for the m235i in Canada? The BMW dealership tells me 17" wheels don't fit the m235i yet loads of members here say they purchased 17s from tirerack and they fit just fine... I'd buy from Tirerack but want to avoid the ridiculous shipping and duty charges from buying in the USA. Anyone know of an equivalent store that sells rims in Canada for decent prices? |

The issue with running 17" wheels is apparently a clearance issue with the breaks on the M235i. Only very specific wheels will fit due to their design. That being said you may have a hard time finding those specific wheels readily available here in Canada. The only place I know of that operates a similar wheel and tire website here in Canada is a place called 1010tires.com. You could try there and see if you have any luck.

I bought wheels at Pneus Touchette on St-Laurent St for my 335i (sport group option) back in 2008. I tried them on the M235i (I have almost brand new winter Nokians) and they fit just fine. I would give them a call.

they were replicas, i know they had to change them because they didn't fit on the 2007 335i with the sport package. Sorry I can't take any pics as they are in Qc at brother's place.
I was concerned too, but there is good clearance between the Wheel and caliper. I would call them. They are very good and responsive. |

I lean towards 18inch winter rims & tires for my M235i. The reason is because smaller wheels look bad on newer car designs conforming to pedestrian safety regulations (i.e. tall side profile). Besides: nowadays 18inchers aren't that much more expensive than a smaller size. The tread width is the same in both cases: 225mm, the only real downside of 18inchers in winter application is less cushioning (i.e. narrower sidewalls) but that should be taken care by M235i adaptive suspension in comfort mode.

17", if they clear the calipers, might give a better winter ride because of taller wheel sidewall and maybe give a bit more clearance inside the wheel well for ice + snow build up. Any thoughts? I'm leaning toward the 17" BBS SR + Blizzak setup.

I'm still looking into that. Can have them ordered in or hop across the river to Detroit and pick them up at a dealer there.

Believe it or not I am putting 16 inches on my 228i m sport. I went to bmw dealer today and was told 16 inch winter setup was coming for my car 2150 + TX. All other tire outfits around here are having issues finding right wheel fitments. So I gave up and just ordered from tire rack again 16 inch sport a7 and blizzak ws80 . Total shipping all $1500 cad which compared to the hassle I have gone through is Definitely worth it.

Nope everything bill included duty del taxes...The truck just shows up and drops off. Just like last time. Now granted if I could get 16 inch setup in canada for the car it would be way cheaper but this is sort of best I can do after all the hassle and investigation. For your info taxes duty and cad to usd you are looking at extra $500. However compare to bmw dealer I am Saving $850.

Hi guys. Not too sure if you guys would consired OEM 17 inches. Some models fit while others don't. BMW Style 380 and 159 fit. 185's don't. Good luck.

I completely take back my above statement regarding Tirerack and 16 inch setup. They assured me it would fit but obviously did not for Cdn spec model. Huge Hassle for return to them. This even though in early Oct even bmw dealer was telling me based on Vin that they had 16 inch set. Anyway I learned my lesson to do extra triple due diligence before this debacle again!

-2 is a big drop with the M-Sport brake calipers. Did Tirerack think you had the base 228i?
I decided to go with the local Kal Tire shop because I wanted Nokian WRG3 (V rated). Best balance of performance for the typical weather in my area. Now going with a square 18 x 8 setup with 225/40R18's all-round. Stayed with an 18" wheel for fitment, was planning to go with 17s. They'll have them in tomorrow afternoon and I'll likely get them installed on Thursday. Will post back the results...
