Ceratec

Someone local to me bought one and received two somehow. He is giving it away on the local bmw group. Thought the concept is interesting, reduce friction and thus wear on the engine.

Do any of you guys use this?

Is it recommended or is there a cons to this?

Almost all synthetic oils have additives mixed in. Is it worth it? Meh? If you so your oil changes every 5-6k I don't see why you would need it. Would I buy it? Probably not. But if the price is good then why the hell not. I think if you have an N55 go ahead since it may reduce wear on the bearings.

Out of curiosity, how much is he asking for?

I used it one time and not since I pulled to oil cap off after abut 100 miles of use there was what looked like a cream colored cottage cheese build up on the oil cap and flat surfaces that I could see through the oil fill hole I took photos of the deposits and sent them to the company they verified that it was the additive from the product building up. I didnt see it being a great thing to have such a large amount of such an expensive product not doing its job

As with other “friction reduction” products such as Slick 50, likely as beneficial as snake oil and possibly harmful if the product builds up in small oil passages or changes the oil chemistry in a detrimental way.

He is giving it away for free

Sounds like its pretty questionable and I do my oil change every 5-5.5k miles and I drove mainly cruise on freeway at 80 mph below 2 rpm so I should be good

I don’t see a need to add any of this, and IMO this just opens up for potential problems. Both the N55 and B58 will last a longggggg time if you take care of them. Adding in a 3rd party “enhancement” just doesn’t seem like a risk that makes sense. If these engines had issues and this was more a preventative thing, I think I might change my mind. But to add something just to add, seems like a waste.
