Can you please post some photos? I am undecided between type and percentage and it would help to visualize this better with some good photos. Thanks!

Got my 228i tinted with 3M Carbon 18%. No issues with comfort access, BMW Online, bluetooth, Satellite radio or any other electronics people are concerned about.

Will post pics when we have a nice day with no rain.

some pics with 35% look too light, while others look just right.
does getting ceramic or pinnacle make it look a little darker?

Yes! I was hoping to see a Mineral Grey with tint in this thread, I have the same color car and will be tinting soon. Your car looks great! I'm probably going to do Huper Optik, I had it on my last 2 cars and really liked it.

When people say "all around", do they mean side windows + rear window, or side windows + rear window + windshield? It seems like that phrase means different things to different people.

I'm personally planning to tint my sides and rear, but I'm not sure about the windshield. I'm mostly concerned about heat rejection and UV protection, not about darkening. I'm also very concerned about visibility.

I'm hesitant to get the windshield tinted because I'm worried visibility would be compromised on a foggy or rainy night. Also, the windshield already protects against UVA/UVB, so the only real benefit for me would be heat rejection. If I can keep the car significantly cooler even with something like Air Blue 80 on the windshield, maybe it's worth it, but only if the darkening at night is minimal.

Anyone have thoughts on whether to get the windshield tinted? Is the amount of heat rejection for an 80% tint (like Air Blue) worth it?

to me "all around" means the front 2 windows with side and rear.

usually in terms of does it match all around or are the front 2 windows diff than the rest?

Tinting is good protection from the sun. It's a good thing to do to all cars. The only downside is that if one tints too darkly, it can be nigh impossible to see detail in the mirrors, particularly at night. During the day, it's a great help if one forgets to wear sunglasses.

All the best.

I had ceramic all around as in on my windshield and everything else. 35/70% and the windshield cuts down a tremendous amount of heat. The car doesn't get as hot, but the biggest advantage is in direct sunlight on your face/body. If you've ever had side windows tinted and noticed when you roll your window down and the sun heats your face, rolling up the window fixes that. The windshield is just as dramatic a difference.

Thanks, that is very helpful. For the 70% film on the windshield, which brand and model of tint do you have? Do you notice any haze in direct sunlight? Any issues with polarized sunglasses? How much darker is it at night vs. no tint?

I have wincos. No hazing issues but I do notice some colors are skewed when using polarized sunglasses. It isn't really evident that I have tint on the windshield. I doubt anyone would notice.

Cool...I've heard good things about Wincos. I'll definitely bring my sunglasses with me when I check out the options at the shop. I take it you are not too bothered by the skewed colors (or you use non-polarized sunglasses).

I may just start out with tint only on the sides and back. If I still feel like I'm baking in the sun, add the windshield later. I'm still waiting for my car to arrive, so I don't yet know exactly how hot it will be yet. It's Alpine White with black interior. The light paint color should help, but if I can't sit down in those black seats without burning my legs, that will be a sign I should do the windshield.

I do drive with a pair of polarized raybans. The color effect is against certain surfaces that refract light. Like a shiny tire sidewall might look slightly purple. No big deal. I had to replace my windshield due to a rock chipping it where the wiper sweeps. So now I bake. Never had to worry about the steering wheel being hot in the sun until now. Not gonna bother retinting as I return the car in a few months.

Ah okay. That sounds pretty minor. Thanks for the info!

I always tint my cars just for the sake of the interior and for the sake of keeping some of the heat out of the car. It gets crazy hot in Houston especially with black interior. Im a fan of the look of the tint too, only cars I wouldn't tint are classics.

Llumar 80 is virtually invisible and it is an 80% tint. It has a very slight blue tint only visible upon very close inspection. I used Wincos ceramic tint on my windshield and did not notice any hue. The ceramic tint does cut down the heat quite dramatically though. You could use Llumar Air 80 all the way around to cut down the heat but keep the look of the car stock. No one would hassle you as it is 80% which is legal pretty much everywhere on the sides.

Hyperzulu: Do you have any problems at night and other car's lights looking hazy or street lights looking hazy?

I had windshield tint on a previous car, I forgot the brand though, and had that problem. I'm hoping this Llumar Air 80 doesn't have it.

And done. Looks pretty good I think.

Huper Optik Drei (35%) on sides and back, Llumar AIR 80 (78%) on windshield.
