Dinan Mid Pipe vs Resonator Delete
Hi all,
Was looking at making the sound from my m240 more aggressive.. i came across these options.. either 500 dollars for a Dinan MidPipe https://www.ecstuning.com/b-dinan-pa...d660-0057~din/ or half the price for the Dinan Resonator delete https://www.x-ph.com/dinan-resonator...bmw-f22-m235i/ Can anyone help me distinguish the difference? Thank you! Last edited by K9GunSlinger; 05-30-2017 at 09:08 PM.. |

I was not aware that Dinan offered a resonator delete option. It is curious that this option deletes the rear resonator only. A thread earlier this year
(http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1331649) reported that deleting the rear resonator made no noticable change to the exhaust sound on a M240i. In contrast, there have been several threads indicating that deleting BOTH resonators (either via a Dinan midpipe or by simply having a muffler shop weld custom pipes in place of both resonators) resulted in pleasing sound improvements (http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1352934). So far, there is no report on just deleting the FRONT resonator and replacing it with a custom pipe. I hope to try that when I get my M240 since it would be the least expensive option with no obvious disadvantages. |

The Dinan midpipe it's the "premium" resonator delete option but i think the Dinan would perform better than the stock pipe with resonators deleted because the first one has a larger diameter.

Dinan Resonator Delete > for M235 which only had one resonator
Dinan Midpipe (deletes 2 resonators) > for M240i |

a local muffler shop can do both for a fraction of the cost.
Removing resonator or swapping midpipe will get you no performance gain and the sound change will be almost nothing. Better off using that money someplace else. just my .02.

The sound gain with the Dinan midpipe transforms the M240i. Although I can see that might not be true for the M235i since it has only one resonator. While there certainly are other places you can spend your money, if you are looking at getting a more aggressive sound out of an M240i it's money well spent and cost effective.

I hope you're right. I'm getting mine on Monday. Partnering it with a MPE, lets see how much better in sound it gets.

You have to do some mods to the midpipe or exhaust to make it work don't you?

I'll find out monday. However, I was told it should fit easily like how if I just had the OEM exhaust. That was from EAS. We shall see.

EDIT: Found it. Here is what the poster wrote: "Okay, after spending a shit load of time getting the Dinan midpipe's custom tailored to fit the factory M Performance Exhaust (MPE), it's finally done. If you weren't aware, it's NOT a straight bolt on affair. I have modified the Dinan midpipe so I can go back to the stock midpipe within minutes if needed. My goal was to leave the MPE exactly as it comes from the factory. Video to come soon, but this combined with the ER catless downpipe is bonkers loud. Sounds awesome on throttle and in boost, but is so obnoxious everywhere else (especially cold start). I told myself I would give it a week before I decide if I'm going back to the stock midpipe. I think this current setup would be perfect with the stock downpipe." In the comments he said the midpipe and MPE inlet are both the same size so that's what causes the issue. Normally the stock midpipe slides into the MPE.

I noticed that the UK 2018 promo literature for the M240i mentions that the exhaust has been modified with a resonator deleted to improve the exhaust note:
"The exhaust system is instantly recognisable by tailpipes in Dark Chrome. Removal of the middle silencer and intelligent air vent control produce a charismatic sound, reinforcing the sporty sensation." Hopefully, this will be carried over to the U.S. M240's. |
