Casual numbers quoted have a large range of issues:
Temperature, tire wear, driver, gallons of gas in a tank, road condition, elevation, quality of gas, etc.) However numbers are the only thing that give some semblance of apples-to-apples comparison to readers out there, and they're what the auto world uses as a standard to convey acceleration.

Way better than, "By the seat of the pants, it felt much faster."
