New guy with new ride
Well I finally picked up my new to me ride. It’s a CPO ‘18 m240. Mineral gray, manual, Oyster interior, and every option package except the upgraded LEDs. It only had 21K miles on it.
I was looking for red or the brown leather but couldn’t find one. I paid $35K for it and $1100 to transport it (the original window sticker showed an original price of $54,700). I couldn’t find one close and mine came out of Bellvue, WA. It came from an AutoNation BMW dealership. AutoNation does no negotiating prices and since it’s so hard to find CPO manuals, I got it. I have to say that finding a manual is difficult. I was going to do a new one and lease it. Dealerships are treating these like gold and aren’t negotiating. I spoke to a few dealers and they didn’t have any allocation to order me one, so I went down the CPO route. I replaced a ‘19 Corvette GS with this car. I just got it Friday and I’ve put 300 miles on it. So far so good. It’s so much fun to drive! I never bonded with the ‘Vette and that’s why I got rid of it. This car feels go kart fun like my R56 MINI did. I plan on installing a set of Dinan Springs. A friend of mine has a set of VMR 710 wheels that he is giving me. He took them off of his 240 when he returned his lease late last year. That’s about all I intend to do it. I’ll get pictures later when the car is clean. |

Congratulations. I've had my M235i vert with MT for 4 years now. I also came from an R56 MINI Cooper S. I loved my MINI but it was a hardtop and I really missed having a convertible. I absolutely love my BMW. It is such a joy to drive, especially after driving my truck for several days in a row, like I did recently with the snow and ice we had. At this point I plan to keep it at least another 3 or 4 more years. The only thing I can see as an upgrade when it comes time to replace it would be a Boxster S or GTS. Enjoy. It's truly a car you grow to appreciate the longer you have it.

Congratulations HogFan760! You have your hands on what will no longer be available in the future (other than M2). This could be a keeper for you! Approaching 7 years, not a single thought of parting with mine.

Nice! Glad you're enjoying it. I thought about going with a Vette GS, but at the end of the day I thought it would be just a bit too difficult to daily. Looking forward to pics, MG is an awesome color!

The 'vette was too difficult to daily for me. It was too many compromises. Anyway, on to the pictures. This was after a quick hand wash. I always like doing this after I buy a car, especially a CPO because then you can really see any flaws that need fixing.
I found a spot on the PPF that looks like someone tried to take a buffer to. It's not horrible but it's not great. I'll look into seeing if I can fix it with some chemicals or hand polishing it. Not sure if that will work. I found a dent in the front left fender. Not sure if it was there when I picked up the car, I looked at it I thought thoroughly but in the dim lighting of the bay it was parked in, I didn't see it. You could only see it at certain angles. I got that fixed via PDR today. |

Your experience reminds me of a body shop guy who had just repainted an Electric Silver panel on a Volvo of mine. He called to tell me that it didn't come out right, and I should come see it. (His shop was 5 min. away.) The car was out in the sun when I got there, and from every angle I could see nothing wrong. He said "Look up at the sky, and wait until one of those clouds goes by." Sure enough, that panel was clearly not perfectly matched; once the cloud had passed, it looked perfect again. The lesson, for me, was the same as always when you're not doing it yourself: hire the best people you can.

yeah manuals are hard to find! didn't over a year trying to find a manual f30 for my wife. I was lucky my manual f22 landed at a local dealer and I had to jump on it even though I wasn't looking to buy yet.
your car looks great! I love the wood trim!

Nope. The only time I’ve ever been on the track was at the BMW performance driving school where I got to drive all the M cars. It was ALOT of fun. But no, I won’t be tracking it or autocrossing it. I didn’t race my Corvette either and it was HIGHLY capable but I never had any desire. I like this car because it’s sporty and approachable and very daily driver friendly. The Corvette felt like it was always penned up and ready to break loose. So low that you scraped over everything. It was a comfortable car but way too many compromises. I found myself reaching for the keys of my RDX because driving the Corvette was sometimes a hassle when all I wanted was to make a quick run to the grocery store. Now with my Bimmer, I can just hop in and go and not worry about it. I love it. |

I have Oyster leather upholstery as well and I'd recommend you schedule to do a regular clean/treatment of the seats along with any bodywork washing you do. This is my second BMW with Oyster and while some people are wary of a light shade, all I'd say is that it's fine as long as it's not neglected - I treat the seats every couple of months. I use the BMW Leather Care With UV Protection Kit but there are loads of alternatives discussed on the Cosmetic Maintenance section of the Forum. The Oyster can take on some of the blue from jeans, but I found the above removed it without much effort. BMW also do the foam agent in the pack as an individual item - Foam Leather Cleaner - without the sponges and cloths etc., which is also re-branded as Mini upholstery foam.
