Tuning question for 2'ers

I just picked up a new M240i G42 and I was wanting to know what engine tunes/piggybacks people are running. I know the JB4 has been out for years and did stuff for my old 335i back in the day. First off, what do you think of the Juicebox as quick and easy power adder? Second, with recent DME/ECU issues will I have trouble getting a flash down the road on my ride?

Thank you,

Btw, I love the old F series body style and I was going to get an M2 in Long Beach Blue but I missed the cut off for ordering one. So I got this guy instead.

Nice, I didn't know they were delivering yet. There's a subforum for the G42 but I'd bet it's quite empty.

For power I'd recommend Dinan over the others if you absolutely feel that the car is too slow. There's always a possibility the dealer will not want to play nice if the car is in for service. This could lead to a loss in engine warranty and if leased, a cancelled lease. Piggybacks are also detectable.

Your DME (ECU) will be locked to flash tunes so it would need to be unlocked anyways before any flash can be done.

As far as I'm aware, JB4 is the only "easy" tune for anything post 11/2020 - I know Femtoevo has their bench unlock for these Bosch DMEs but you'd have to ship it overseas. Outside of that, you're like me and SOL.

As stated above which is why we all have to be aware the game is a changing... they are working hard to stop mods, normally the aftermarket does prevail so we'll see... good luck with your new ride, beautiful

Thanks guys, when i was supra shopping i noticed this trend with the Mid June DME details. I figured I would get this new engine and enjoy it for a few years and look at modifications later. So the JB4 can be seen? Why does that no shock me here. I previously did a dinan tune with my 335i and loved it. The problem is Dinan and BMW are not longer partners on good terms. Steve Dinan left and started a new venture.

Yes, JB4 can be seen, but if you want to meaningfully increase power, its the only option (outside of shipping to Femtoevo).

The president of our CCA Chapter talked to one of the tuning guys for Dinan at O'Fest a couple weeks ago and they aren't (allegedly) expecting an unlock until late next year, at the earliest.

OP,
Congrats!!

Start with a piggyback, if you want max power and features the Jb4 is the way to go.

If you want a simpler tune to install, lots of good options like the JB+ , Turbo transformer , Race Chip, and Dinan

I don't get the point you are trying to make.
You recommended that he gets a piggyback like Dinan since his ECU is locked, but then start talking about the warranty? Dinan do not match BMW warranty on their piggyback

I'm likely mistaken, but I was under the impression that Dinan's products were either recognized as warranty friendly or they stand by their products to the point that if their tuner causes a failure they will have your back. Maybe that has changed over the years? I'm just going from what I've read in various posts, not from experience.

Either way, research should be done before potentially voiding a warranty and not take the word of some stranger on the internet.

It won't matter to BMW what brand you are using even if it's Dinan.

Dinan match BMW warranty if the dealership refuses to cover a repair for free and claims it's due to your tune. This only applies to Flash tunes, does not apply to Dinan piggyback.

With that being said, you can always remove the piggyback before your dealership visit and save yourself the headache
