You can apply pressure against the armrest mounting area to gain some more access at the trim with a flat head or trim removal tool. Just use a bit of force!

I just kept working it around all edges until I was able to find a few spots that began to loosen it up. No real secret I can pass on. Maybe others can.
I suspect each car is going to be a little different... BTW, after I finished the 5 piece, I added the 6th piece CF/Alcantara around the shifter. Really completed it for me..Separate post on this. in interior forum... GL (and don't break nuthin)

So do I push against the black trim to get more acess then basically use loads of force to wedge the trim remover in, basically pushing down and scooping it out like getting rock hard ice cream from a tub, is that the right motion?

5.Start with the trim tools (I also used a Gila film tool to get the trim started much thinner) Work your way around to pop it up evenly. Then slide it back to unhook the front part. |

Does anyone know how to do the door handles and the center console cover? I just installed the automatic shifter and it looks sick so I want to change the rest of the trim but I need help with the door handles and the shifter center console cover. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

Thanks
Hello everyone!
First post here, just wanted to thank for this post which gave me the confidence to start disassembling my four month old car and change my piano black to carbon fibre look. Piano is nice, but impractical for the dust attraction and very distracting reflections. I was quoted an eye-watering high price for a professional wrap of my interior, and decided to go with DIY instead. I have only wrapped some simple foglights before, so the centerconsole seemed daunting, but turned out to be easy enough. The big secret is to use the expensive wrap/film (3M 1080) and having a good, adjustable heat gun. Added a few pictures...not finished yet. Radio surround, door handles and probably door mirrors will get the same treatment. (White car) |

My CF parts installation. Missed snagging a pic of the e-brake, but that was done as well and has the Alcantara boot cover as well.

Hey,
Do you guys have a close up finish of the carbon fiber weave? I'm wondering if the carbon fiber: a) has the epoxi resin but it is not polished. you wouldn't be able to feel the weave and it will likely reflect with camera flash b) i think this is what is called prepreg. the epoxi is added when the carbon fiber is manufactured (before it is molded), so there is no excessive epoxi resin. much lighter and stronger (but that does not matter in this usage scenario). you should be able to feel the weave and it should not be reflective on camera flash. Based on photos I've seen, it looks like it is the second option. I don't know if what I'm attempting to describe is actual prepreg, since I have absolutely zero carbon fiber experience, and it is much more expensive to manufacture. I hope that what I said was easy to understand. Thanks! |

You can definitely feel the weave so must be your second option.

Anyone have the part number for the Carbon Fiber shifter (2016 M235i Automatic)? I ordered one but it doesn't fit, then I noticed it says "Not for M Sport", guessing there is a different one that I need?

One more thing, now that I have several of the carbon interior pieces, has anyone found CF replacements for the following :
surrounds that are silver in the center stack? (around radio, and climate controls) replacement for the silver on the steering wheel? Interior Door handles covers? Last edited by clyjr; 03-08-2016 at 09:19 AM.. Reason: didn't mean vent... |

P/N is: 32302231982, but I'm having trouble getting my dealership to locate it. He advised this morning that it has a "No longer available" status in his system. If someone is able to track this piece down, if you don't mind, please post your source!
