Ready to replace my 2017 230i - any ordering tips?

Last time I did European delivery.

It was fun but I would do a regular custom order this time for stateside delivery if it saved me more $.

I've gotten monthly incentive "offers" from the local dealer and written back asking what incentives are available for ordering a car - no one ever replies.

From my time on CarGuru, it doesn't appear there is a stateside car with the options I want.

I'm thinking:

2020 BMW 230i
Metallic Grey
Sport Line (I did luxury line last time)
Oyster Dakota Leather
Debating between MSport and Premium Packages.
Convenience Package
Navigation/CarPlay, Heated seats, Harmon-Kardon, the fancy headlights (they are brighter, yes? If the only difference is movement I can skip), active cruise control.
Possibly Track Handling Package (I would like to drive the adjustable suspension before deciding - I think the standard passive MSport suspension is too harsh, which is what gives me pause)

This is similar to my current one (which I love) but adds the active cruise, the suspension, and the headlights.

WriterDude - In August, we got our leftover '19 230i Sport Line xDrive with the adaptive M-Sport suspension as part of the Track Package. We don't have the adaptive bi-xenons (just standard bi-xenons) and I've found them to be very good. Ours has both the Premium, Convenience along with the H/K Sound and we're very happy with those options. Just over 7k miles now and spending the winter months on BMW 17"s with Conti TS 830 RF Winter Tires.
Perhaps rather than European Delivery, you consider a Performance Center Delivery in Spartanburg along with the included 1/2 day driving experience? We did that with our previous '14 F31 M-Sport Sport Wagon and it was a great time.

Great info, and yes, I've given some thought to PCD. I don't live that far away and it also seems to enable more out-of-state dealers to quote a price.

I'd be fine with buying locally, but dealers in other cities have offered more info and service as I've been inquiring.

A dealer is telling me you can't order the Track Handling Package unless you order the M-Sport package. Is this the case for 2020? I thought it used to be a separate option.

Might want to consider going up to the M240 considering all of the performance options you are going to select for the 230. Most (if not all) of that is included in the base build. I haven't priced it out but I think you're within a couple grand to get the 6-cyl, which will command a premium come resale time.

M-Sport package includes extra cooling ( where the fogs would be ), it's not just a body kit so it makes sense it would be required by Track Handling Package.

My M-sport has the fogs but it appears later production 2020s may not.

When you select fogs with M-sport it deletes the extra radiators. This is not detailed in the configurator, I learn this the hard way.

This may be EU specific I don't think you can add the fogs here in U.S.

It is a separate option with the code ZTR but its no longer listed in the online configurator, so it kind of became a secret option. I'm honestly not sure how BMW's back end software works, so the dealer may have trouble adding it to the build sheet.

Check out the order guide for 2020's here:

Update: I've learned from another forum that ZTR was eliminated from base 230i options in October.

I can tell you from viewing under my M240 that with the coolers there on both sides, there is no room for light housings (Fog's). With the Adaptive LED's, there is no need, as they're plenty bright, surprisingly so! Good luck!
