CPO 2016 M235ix Dilemma - Looking to buy
Hi everyone, new to the forum and looking to “grow up” from my WRX.
I’ve had my eye on two different 2016 M235xi coupes in my area. They are both at different dealerships about 20 miles apart, CPO vehicles, and they both have clean Carfax reports with similar mileage (22k & 24k). One has several M-performance parts including the M-performance exhaust while the other has pretty standard features. The car with 22k miles is white (the color I’d like most) with M-performance parts (package?), and was listed about 2 weeks ago @ $35.4k. The other is black sapphire metallic, listed almost 2 months ago and is currently listed @ just under $31k. (originally 34k) My questions: Is the first vehicle priced way too high or is the second one a steal? If so, how much should I expect to be able to negotiate off the asking price of the first (what’s a fair price for that configuration)? Are the M parts worth the added cost? Lastly, am I being ridiculous and should I just go to the dealer with the black one and call it a day? Thanks in advance, - J |

Hello J,
I purchased a 2016 M235i with 21,000 earlier this month for $31,100 in Denver. Car is in better than average condition, with Estoril exterior, manual, heated seats and steering wheel, and HK stereo. I would suggest a starting price of about $32,000 and work up from there. Cheers, Doug |

Hey there,
Are you open to convertible? I was looking at one, it is a 2017 M240 X-drive convertible with 10.5k Miles (black exterior and oyster interior). Car is in perfect condition and I even got the PPI done on it. Listed in Nixa, MO (and they were only charging me $600 shipping to MN). List price at the time was 37k, I got it down to $35k and they seemed like they could move more... but I ended up buying a brand new 2018 instead. The car is still available and now marked at, I think, $36k and I am sure you can bring it down to something like $35k (including tax, reg, shipping). Depends upon your negotiation skills If you are open I can PM you the link. I have a special attachment with this car because I nearly bought it plus the sales woman was more than willing to work on the price. EDIT: not a CPO, but under warranty. I mean, is CPO really necessary for these cars? I guess that’s a personal preference thing, but if the mileage is less than 15k and the car is within 2 years of warranty, I say it is fine to buy non-CPO Last edited by BimBimM2; 06-27-2019 at 07:08 AM.. |

At any rate, my search is officially over and I didn't even have to leave the house. I was checking Carvana yesterday morning and they had just posted a 2016 M235i xdrive in alpine white with 25800 miles, 2 owners (first owner was "corporate" and sold it at 1.8k) and clean Carfax for $29200. My jaw almost hit the floor and I couldn't buy it fast enough. I'm pretty sure it should still have some warranty left until next January too as the original purchase date was 1/5/2016. Should be in my driveway in a few weeks! |

My googleing abilities came in handy and I was able to find the auction photos. I paid the $2.99 fee to get them because I'm impatient like that haha

Thanks! It's pretty bare right now, but I like having the clean slate to work with. It's exciting to think that this will have more power bone stock than my stage 2 WRX.

That or I can just keep her snuggie in the back seat
Seriously though I've been looking through some heated seat aftermarket options. I'm pretty handy with stuff like that, maybe I'll give it a go and if we're all lucky I'll remember to take pictures of the DIY. I've become pretty brave after a successful DIY push start/remote start/proximity entry install on my WRX. Top 3 scariest days of my life. |

Yesterday I bought a 2016 M235i w/27k miles for $27,600 in DC area. They CPO'd it for this price as well. Mint condition, new wheels it appears, new tires, etc. I worked them a bit with other similar models at different dealers and finally settled on the best value as the other 2 had higher miles but similar features. Mine didn't come with Park assist/rearview camera but I don't care about that, just HK! Sounds amazing in such a small car.
Bottom line is that I have quite a few bimmers over the years and this one feels crazy fast , nimble, quick and precise steering. It puts the "fun" back on the BMW brand as I was coming out of 14 550i. I'm itching to mildly tune it but smart not to because of the warranty. |

Mine only has the Hi-Fi setup which I fully intend on upgrading. I did just purchase the AvinUSA 10.25" Nav system and aftermarket backup camera for $430 shipped; I guess they're having a sale. It sounds like there are some good aftermarket options for a backup camera out there at reasonable prices if you'd ever want to go that route. |

First, I absolutely love the car. It's everything I thought it would be and the combination of power and luxury blows away my Subaru. Now, 2 weeks ago I went to the grocery store and the car was running fine, nothing out of the ordinary. I returned to the car to leave and got a "chassis stabilization" warning upon startup. Odd since it hadn't been there while driving. Long story short, I tried to clear the code, ultimately couldn't, and took it to the dealership. I needed a new transfer case I about passed out. Luckily for me, I still had 7 months of factory warranty left and it was replaced under warranty. Not sure what caused the failure, the dealership suspects mismatched tires during previous ownership Anyway, I would advise anyone to try to buy under some type of warranty.....and maybe think twice about Carvana lol. - J |

Transfer cases seem to go at a bit higher rate than expected in the F series chassis. the F30 forum has an on going failure tracking list and theory on the cause

Let's just say the warranty work was approved pretty quickly. There was a BMW engineer in the shop that day; he had the tech measure the diameter of the tires, but they were obviously new and the correct size. As a side they performed the work the next morning and I had my car back around noon so shout out to Bobby Rahal BMW.
