Do you have trunk sub?

Hello, I am just curious how well subwoofers in the trunk of this car work. In some BMWs the trunk is very well isolated from the cabin. So just sticking a sub in the trunk will mean you vibrate your trunk a lot while expending a lot of amplifier power to get decent bass.

However, in some cars it seems to work fine. I am wondering whether it would be better to install a sub to fire through the ski port or if just standard box in trunk will be fine. Thanks ahead for whatever advice you could provide.

I have a cheap RF powered sub and it works really well for me.
Got the speaker level feed from the amp(passenger side sub).
Hope this helps.

I have a more expensive option, a Focal speaker with a pretty powerful JL amp. It works very well in my car, a convertible with room only for the 8" speaker. Acoustics in a coupe could be different so my experience may not be apples to apples.

Thanks, if you fold down the rear seats does it get noticeably louder, or is the acoustic transmission between trunk and cabin so good that the seats don’t really block much? Just curious how much more power is necessary if locating sub in closed off trunk vs something like a band pass box venting into cabin.

I haven’t tried folding the rear seats.
I’m not sure if the stock sub output has higher voltage, but it hits significantly harder than when I had the same sub in my previous Camaro.
I have it hooked to the passenger’s side under-seat sub and it hits plenty hard, even with the rear seat backs in place.

Along with the JL rear coax’s and disconnected center channel, I’m happy with the way it sounds now.
Hope this helps!
