Car back with me, drove it today...I am pretty sure I had four reboots in the same day. And my settings are all gone and bluetooth sw version was reset back... although that might have been due to having the dealers look into things. They said there is no sw update at the moment related to this, so, no action at the moment

You can always backup your profile on a USB stick so you don't lose your settings

Mine will stop playing music all of a sudden like you are saying but its never rebooted. To get the music playing again from my phone I need to turn the car off and on again. BMW wasn't able to figure it out back in November and I was able to update the iDrive software since then and its still doing it.

I've had this happen maybe 3 times since I took delivery of the car 4 days ago. Each time I was listening to Spotify via either Bluetooth or USB. I'm currently in the central coast of CA, where ambient temperatures have been around 55F.

I have tech package, enhanced Bluetooth, and am using an iPhone 6.

I guess this issue is more common than I thought. I suppose it's harmless? Similar to computers freezing occasionally?

I thought this was only happening to me...
I've had my 2 series for a year now and it'll randomly happen about once a month or so. I know for a fact it's happened to me when I was listening to the radio and once when I was using the navigation system so I doubt it has anything to do with running a music app from the phone as some of you mentioned but every time this has happened my phone has been connected via Bluetooth. I work for BMW and just searched through a couple bulletins and I see for the 2 series there is a few service codes: 16 03 15 for the fuel pump failure, 65 09 15 for the navigation display shut down and 51 12 15 for the front door panel being loose.

Apparently there's a service code out for something similar:

"...65 09 15 for the navigation display shut down..."

Here's the original thread - just scroll down and you'll see the ref to the screen shutting down. No idea if that's your issue, but worth asking your SA?

Thanks for the info!
I have a question about the service code though, not sure what it's about. Is it a code which will show up when the dealer plugs in a computer to the OBD? If I bring the car to the dealer and they did find this service code for the navigation display shut down, what would they do to fix it?
Thanks!

Just an FYI, I had my car in with this issue (random reboots), and I documented something... say on a bad day I'll get three (in succession), on a good day zero. On a weekly basis? One or two on average.

They did a battery thing, and some internal coding about some FlexRelay or other... but the other day I got a reboot again.

I just want to know if it is software (fix it people/fix it apple!) or indicative of hardware issues.

The one time I caught some good info, I was on the multimedia screen and each time it rebooted the bluetooth icon said 'loading...' then reboot, again 'loading...' then reboot, the third time it was able to say 'OK' or something to that effect (bluetooth phone was OFF to avoid it being caused by pairing)... so that's my only clue; caused by the bluetooth module loading.

I run the latest 255ish update from the bluetooth update site.

I brought my car to the dealer. They checked and said nothing was wrong. They are in the process of updating the latest software. I wonder if it will rectify the glitch. Anyways, will drive it for awhile and let u guys know if it recurs again.

After getting the software update from dealer back in June, the rebooting problem has been resolved. Haven't happened since.

My Idrive is rebooting every 10-15sec. Its winter at the moment so not sure overheating is the cause. Going to dealer in a couple days. Unless someone found a way to get it to boot up correctly??

This happened to me when I picked up my 16 M235...the dealer did a firmware update and that took care of it. They should be able to get that done for you, I havent had an issue since.

Yup just got my car back with updated software.
Looks like they may have changed the way the air-con works. So far it appeared to stay with last known setting. I had turned off the air when i was in the car. Latter came back and it was still off. Normally it always was on. Have others seen this change?

I can try to replicate this, but I usually have mine on since its winter right now so I personally haven't seen this. Either way, you can code it to remember to stay off if its an issue.

Yea i had it coded to be off in the summer and in the winter leave it default. but ultimately I wanted it to just remember last set state. It appears with the new software update it stays in last set state. which is very nice.
