M-lites rare in New England?

The M240i first came onto my radar in mid-January and I've been the proud owner of a M240i for the past week and a half.

Since I started looking in January, I think I've seen exactly 1 M235i or M240i on the roads. I do most my driving in Metrowest and Central Mass, but I've also done a few long drives through VT and NH.

Are M-lites really that rare in New England?

The 2-er in general seems to be really rare in the wild. BMW moves about 10,000 2’s a year, and has sold up to 150,000 3/4’s a year over the same time.

Fair point. 10K isn't that much.

They are rare indeed. Here and there I will see one. Mostly 228/230 verts with an older woman driving. I used to see a red 228i Msport on the way home from work frequently but that's about it.

I'm in Burlington, Ma. In the 2 years I've had my 2016 M235 I have seen 4 other M2 ers. Way more 3 series than anything else.

There are far more around than you realize (yet). I hardly ever saw (noticed) a 2-series until I bought one. Then I started noticing them more and more. Now, I see other 2ers several times per week in Boston and on 93 to/from work.

Don't get me wrong; you'll see WAY more 3, 4 and 5 series than 2ers.

I think most have their 2 series sitting in storage. I'm one of those people. My vert M235xi maybe might be out in May after the roads clean up from all the sand and pot holes around here in Metrowest. You will see more starting in May I think.

Congratulations on your new ride!

I got my 2 last summer and finding a manual RWD version was very hard in New England, especially with how rare the 2 already is.

I see a few M235/240's in the Boston area but they're much rarer than the 3/4's.

I've had my '16 M235i for about a year now, and I've barely seen any in the central CT area. I've heard there's one around town the same color as mine - coworkers have asked if it was me - but I've never seen it.

Down here it's a ton of 3's and X's.

Just joined the forum and added one more M240i to the area - 2019 Melbourne Red convertible xdrive. Can’t wait for the good weather to get here!

Daily drive my AW F23 M235i xdrive in central mass (Milford). As far as I know, there are 4-5 2ers in my area that I see regularly (only two M lite)

Nice, I may see you around Rony.

Figures, I hardly ever see any M cars on my 75 mile round trip commute. Today I had taken my wife's Toyota into work and first I see a M235i on 290 and then a M4 and RS4 traveling together on 495. Wish I had my BMW today!

I have only seen a couple since I bought mine last year. As pointed out earlier in the thread, they do not build many and if you figure they sell in all 50 States, that leaves about 200 per state. Not necessarily accurate but it puts things in perspective.

Did see a nice one in the parking garage at BDL a couple of months back, who parked a couple of cars away from me in the garage. Blue, very well appointed.

As an aside, I have been told before that the 2 Series really is a bit of a inconspicuous car. I am perfectly fine with it being less noticed, especially by the authorities...

I am in Nashua, NH and work in Lowell, MA. Last week I was driving up to Manchester, NH and saw one M235i and two M2s.

I saw a mineral grey 2er in my parking garage in Boston today and a white M240ix on 93N on my drive home. We're out there, you just have to keep an eye open.

I just stumbled on this post. I just bought a 2021 M240i XDrive from BMW Sudbury. Very happy with the purchase after about a month or so now. I traded in my 2015 GTI. I feel like I got a fair price and a good experience. It's my first BMW.

Look for me in my White with red leather version traveling to/from Burlington / Lexington / North Andover each day. In the warmer months you'll see a bike rack on top and perhaps even one of our tandem bikes up there.
