I recently went through the process of buying a 2018 230i assuming I would be able to add Apple Car Play. I quickly discovered the option to purchase from the connected store was not there and further research revealed it is because the car didn't have wireless charging and WiFi as an added option despite having NBT Evo. Upon further research I discovered that Enhanced Bluetooth was also part of the wireless charging and WiFi package.

I was able to code for EBT and it is fully functional. Then I ordered and installed a WiFi antenna to the radio for more reliable Apple Car Play connectivity. It is not mandatory but if you plan to have your phone further away than your cup holders, you want to add the antenna. Last, I purchased an activation code from Wibble (member search) who has done a ton of unlocks for others and used the software application and my E-net cable to code the car. Recent car software updates from BMW has blocked the possibility of a usb activation. Thankfully the coding was dead simple. You get an activation key, download the application, connect the car with cable and click a few buttons.

Now I have Apple Car Play fully functional and unlocked for life! I just thought I'd share this information here because I had to do a lot of looking to find different components of my upgrades. Thank you to the people who helped me get this project completed. The last part of this project will be the addition of a wireless charging pad just in front of the cup holders (Look for my other post once it is installed and working). I will share the coding options for Bimmercode code to add EBT on NBT Evo. I'll also share a link for the WiFi antenna (see my post in electronic section for the install).

How do you find the overall experience of CarPlay? Are you finding it easy enough to navigate via the idrive dial or do you use your fancy 2018 touchscreen?

I tend to use the scroll wheel because of years of no touch screen in BMW's. Plus, the screen is placed a little further away and is easier than leaning over to touch the screen and I hate fingerprints on my screen. I have it factory equipped in my x3 so I am somewhat used to having the system. I'm a Apple fan boy but I'm still not 100% sold on Car Play, mainly because BMW's system is so good and car play doesn't offer much wow factor. However, I like to tinker and it wasn't an overly expensive project.

Thanks for sharing this. So you had to enter the activation code via cable using the attached instructions prior to changing the coding via bimmercode?

No. I coded everything first and THEN ran the unlock/activation software on my computer using cable to connect.

Got it thanks. Wibbles has changed his username and doesn't appear to be accepting PMs, so I'm on the hunt for someone else that can supply FSC activation code.

Maybe be a dumb question but was your NBT Evo ID4 or ID5?

I'm pretty certain I have ID4. Would this work for me?

I have idrive 6. As far as I know that is the only version you can get Apple car play working.

Hi, I have a M235i - 2015.

I would like to install ID6 with apple carplay in my NBT-EVO unit, currently the idrive software is ID4.

I know that i need to reflash my unit , but i can't find a guide to help me with. As you updated yours, could you help me?

Thank you.
