Send to car no longer supports BMW

Looks like this functionality is gone now that Google shut down its classic maps website. What a bummer!

I think you just have to set up your account again on Google. I had to do this just the other day, but once I set up the send to account again (using the e-mail that BMW uses), the Send to option reappeared and does work. The account has to be reset due to the new version of Goggle maps -- I think.

did you do an update to the app or something? mine is still working through the BMW Remote iphone app.

Ricfutures is saying the Android app, "Send To Car" no longer works with BMW. The web version of google maps and the BMW app still work. But the Send To Car app was a nice easy way to send a quick address to the car from your phone.

Got it. I always use it from my PC. Sorry the app stopped working.

Correct! iOS version as well.

When you add your car to the "send to car" on the Google website, what do you use for the account number? I looked in mybmw, BMW connect sites, and I don't see an account number. I tried the vin, and it didn't work.

Yeah but how you get the Account ID from the manufacturer?

Your dealer should have set it up for you and the account ID will be the email address you used with the dealer to set up the account.

To be clear for future readers:

Send To Car is, at time of writing, working from the Google Desktop Maps interface
It is also available from the BMW Remote app

Google caused third party apps to use an API to Send To Car *without being authenticated*. The most popular app for iOS and Android did not want to build-in authentication (as you'd need to request Full authentication rights), so those apps cannot do send-to-car anymore.

My dealer figured out the issue. For an sos malfunction error they replaced the TCB (telematics control box). After that I could no longer receive messages. To make it even more confusing, BMW connected drive service was reporting an outage that lasted over a week. My issue was the firmware of the new TCB was an older version. Once they flashed it with the latest, it was able to receive messages. They still have my car to do more tests. Ie send to car from google maps and send a message from BMW assist. I'm hopeful these will work too.

I actually remade a Send to Car app if you guys are interested. Here is the one I made:

Android:

Apple:
The Apple iOS version will be released in a week. It is pending approval right now.

Just search Send2Car or SmarterMotors on google play.

It is a free app. If you guys want any additional features just let me know and I will try to get it in the next version. Also if you find any bugs, please let me know so I can fix it. I hope it helps =).

My send to car in Google has never stopped working....you guys still having trouble. I just sent a destination last weekend.

It works in Google Maps on my computer browser, but doesn't show up in Google Maps on my Android phone.

Try using the BMW remote app. You can send look ups to the car from your mobile as well.
