Show off your iPhone mount
I'm looking for the most creative (and cleanest) way to put my iPhone on the dashboard so that it remains visible.
My primary area of interest is the space between the cupholders and the center stack. Has anyone found a neat solution to put a phone there? |

I don't know if you have the smokers package with the cigarette lighter and the ashtray that sits in front of the cupholders but I took the ashtray out and replaced it with a $6.00 OEM part (a little rubber pad that sits in the bottom of that space where the ashtray was). I haven't figured out the phone mount yet, but that makes a great space for it. I'm still in the brainstorming stage.

Yes, it's the ashtray area that I'm thinking of. I haven't got the car yet (it's in build phase) but think I could even stick a small tablet in there, and splice into the back of the cigarette lighter for power.
My only concern is wires. I cannot have wires showing in a new BMW. |

As for wires: you're gonna need at least a lead wire out if you want to tap power, unless you do what HX_Guy did here: http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1008331 |

What's the part number for the ashtray replacement? I've looked, but not found it.

I'm toying with the idea of something very minimal that will hold a side edge of the phone in place near or against the bottom of the center dash, above the ashtray area. The other side of the phone would nestle into the rubber ashtray insert, which appears to be very shallow and shouldn't affect visibility. The side edge hold doesn't have to be much -- I was thinking possibly a small rectangular magnet, but I, too, don't want those fields around my phone. And I won't know if this idea is viable with an iPhone 6 Plus' width (the angle would need to be right) until I have my car. |

That looks like a Steelie.
http://www.niteize.com/product/Steel...-Mount-Kit.asp http://amzn.com/B00BAQKRHY I have used it in my previous cars (and it's great) but I prefer not to have a case on my phone or glue anything to it. Man, I can't wait to get my car and start experimenting... |

Yea, I didn't stick the magnet on my phone either. I just place the piece between my case and my phone. However, I looked up the tape and its 3M VHB which supposedly is a very good quality industrial grade tape and many have written reviews that it'll be removed easily with Goo Gone or even just nails. However, the tape is so strong people use it to hold blinds and metal as well. so thought i would give it a try. |

I use this :
http://www.amazon.com/Okra-Universal.../dp/B00P2SC6BQ Inexpensive, minimal, and gets the job done. Haven't had any issues with it falling off.

No interference at all with my phone, no changes to my battery or signal. The designer of this phone holder took consideration into the magnetic force that will interfere and created something called 'magnetic shielding'. The description for magnetic shielding: Quote:

I've never done it since I never had a problem with it. You're welcome to ask them for a test.. I'm sure they must have something like that.
This is the official web page for them http://www.bungajungle.com/ |
