Hardware. Although you can install ID5 in 2016 car with NBT EVO, there are some hardware differences between 2016 and 2017. We tested a S4 with older android software and it work but it did not work a a newer LG phone.

So, if it was you would you rather wait for the upgrade to ID5? Or you would just install the SmartView HD option and be done with it? What would be the main differences between both of these?

I have a MY2015 F15 with TV and other goodies, but I don't have BMW Online services

If i was you i would do ID5. The great thing with your F15 is that it supports touch screen functionality.

Smartview HD is Mirroring and Apple Tv. Here's a demo

Just FYI what determines if it will work or not is if the phone uses the Miracast protocol for screen mirroring. Some phones such as the Nexus have Miracast disabled by Google and use Chromecast exclusively, which is not supported by the NBT. You can get it to work on these phones but you will need to root them.

ConnectedDrive Portal - whenever it becomes available. Still no exact date yet.

The other way is to swap all of your FSC codes for a set of custom ones which I don't recommend unless your ID5 unit is retrofitted like mine.

I have 2018 220iA Gran Tourer. It has ID5, but no navigation system (prohibitively expensive option in HK and not recommended by dealer) and no CarPlay. Is there any solution to retrofit Carplay?
