Bilstein B16 Coilovers

Put this in the suspension thread but no comments so let's give it a try here.

Does anyone have these installed? Curious to hear reviews and see images of the car if anyone does.

I'm trying to decide between these and kw v2. My biggest concern is the range of drop, bilstein says 30mm (little over 1" minimum) where as that is almost the max drop for kw kit?! I probably want to be around a 1" drop for front and rear and my thought is a coilover that is closer to the min. drop will ride better than one maxed out.

Any thoughts?

Hi Yes, I had them on my F30 and F22 240i.

To be honest the drop range from Bilstein is not particularly clear. First off the reference is to the non M Sport suspension. Secondly the drop height from BMW, M sport to non m sport is commonly suggested that is 10mm, where in reality that is not the case.

All I can say is, the Bilstein b16 will never give you a slammed ride height. It will probably lower maybe 20mm rear max. Front about 25mm.

Other than drop heights they are awesome. Damping is on another level from stock, achieving a more sporty ride with more compliance. Definitely recommended.

Here are some initial pics after fitting B16. I was able to drop the rears some, but left front as you see them here.

Adding latest pic. Pic 3 is from a few weeks ago.

Really appreciate this, haven't been able to get good information from anyone. I definitely don't want the car to be slammed but would like a little more drop than my current eibach springs have. Drop aside glad to hear you are happy with them.

I put them on and they have been fantastic, not looking back. The ride in comfort is like stock but Sport is much better / stiffer than factory. I gained 3 seconds on my local track.

I was at ThunderHill West and turned a 1:29. I hit Laguna Seca a lot as well.

The car needs heavier sway bars, that's my next purchase.

I usually run RS-RR's but switched to Kumho Escata PS 91's, not a great tire I'll probably go back to the RS-RR's for track only, for daily driving they are just too loud.

NISFAN,

How close to max height are you in those pics? In other words, could you go higher?

Thanks for this thread. I have been conrimpating these CO's and I do not want to drop thecar too much. These pics and reviews are very encouraging.

Thanks!
josh

I'd say I could have gone +15mm on those. Probably higher than stock if needed.

Did anyone switch to adjustable sway bar endlinks when going to coilovers? I've been reading about how bad pre-load on the sway bar can be when lowering the car, curious what everyone's experience has been.

Not here. The shop said the BMW end links would work with the H&R front bar they installed for me.

It's entirely possible, of course, that another set of components might require adjustable end links. I suggest that as I'm no expert in these matters.

How much stiffer do these ride relative to stock? I'll be looking to get these come spring or summer time cause they look DAMN good; this is/will be my daily, so I'd like to maintain some kind of cushion in comfort mode.

Can you give me some details on what measurements? Maybe a diagram (doesn’t matter if it’s MS Paint quality)

I ordered some for my m240i xdrive and they came delivered extremely damaged. It was clear someone had repackaged them. There was a gaping hole in the box when it arrived. Extremely disappointing. In the middle of return and replacement process now.

That sucks! Who did you order them from?

I am probably going to be ready to get these in the next month.

Sure!

I measure from the ground to the edge of the middle of the fender at its highest point. OR some folks will measure from the middle of the wheel center cap to the edge of the fender.

I am not so great at inet art, but I will try to get a diagram for ya...

Thanks!
