S58 good news for B58?
All,
I came across this article from bimmerlife that gives an overview of modifications to the B58 to make the S58. https://bimmerlife.com/2019/02/16/bm...tm_name=member There are slight changes to bore and stroke (for higher redline), more injectors and double fuel pressure, obviously dual turbo setup, but block is unchanged. While reading I thought two things: 1) maybe this is why the B58 was designed so strong, and it is a good omen for tuning these things up, and 2) maybe there is some potential in using S58 parts on the B58, or the fuel cap will be overcome as tuners tune both B58 and S58. Give it a read and let us know your thoughts! |

I understand that engine parts won’t be a direct fit; the intake manifold is not likely to transfer, etc.
I was interested in things like potential fuel system upgrades that might be ecu compliant. |

From the start, the B58 was going to the platform for the S58. With that said, tons of changes were made and it is quite unlikely that much of anything used on the S58 can be transferred over to the B58. BMW has never been much for parts bin sharing like other makes.
In terms of the B58 block, it's quite strong because it's closed deck and was designed from the start to be modular to the diesel cars. With that said, BMW gasoline turbo blocks, even those with open decks (i.e., the N54 and N55) are far from weak and can take a ton more power than stock. The closed deck B58/S58/S55 blocks should be able to survive even more power. The question is can everything else in it survive in the long term? I doubt it.
