I didn't get the M240i for stop-and-go or running errands, and I don't drive on a daily basis, so most often I use the wife's 2015 Mazda 3 2.5-liter MT hatchback for around-town stuff.

I use my Tundra sometimes, but live in town now and only need it when I'm going bike riding or picking something up at Home Depot, etc.

I use the BMW for driving trips around the region, and take it to the track a few days each year. It's strictly a pleasure car - one that won't have many miles put on it. During the winter I take it out monthly for 90 minutes or so to get the fluids thoroughly warmed-up.

Well, I do drive it, almost daily to work where parking is good, and if weather is good. That is a good bit of driving. But the other BMW, the 3 GT, takes the burden of risk. The 2 is my "toy", among the last of the manual trans, exactly the way I want it, and plan to keep for a long time. I will be the future version of that 80+ something year old guy with his 2002 who shows up these days.

M240i xDrive (expected in March) will replace my current '18 WRX as my new DD.
Will also mount A/S tires on the new Bimmer, just like I had to do for the WRX.

Cheers/B

My 2er is my daily driver. Maybe too much so, as I've found myself making excuses to drive it more. 24k miles / year since I got it! The minivan does cover though when I need more space. I will admit that the 2er can't accommodate 7 people, a 4x8 sheet of plywood or 4 people and luggage (for any more than a long weekend).

It's low profile and relatively heavy weight allow it to cut right through. Never tried driving in a tornado; that might be enough to convince me not to take it out for a spin!

I hear you (sort of)! While I don't mind the drive to work (sort of), I look forward to the drive home from work! Besides the whole leaving work thing, I much prefer sitting in traffic at the beginning of the drive and having it free up towards the end of my drive on the way home vs. getting into heavier and heavier traffic on the way to work.

Okay there is always one or two who will say the opposite and generally be negative so here it is. I DDD (don't daily drive) my 230i .this makes me happy & sad.

Reasons against .

I live about 2km from my workplace (Traffic might be 6-10 cars)
Parking at back of workplace - delivery vans forklifts hot sunny dry dusty or cold sunny dry dusty (rain hardly ever) I could park under a tree, branches fall and birds make more deposits than auto teller does cash out.

Reasons for.

When I do get time - car is cleaner looking and smelling like new .
I'll still have clear coat & hopefully not to many dents.)
Like new A experience every time (or maybe I have memory loss who knows?)

OR

perhaps I don't love my 230 enough to drive it into the ground (hope not to be struck by the wrath of other 2 owners)

Never thought of it that way, I live in WV we don’t have traffic (really we don’t) and as John Denver said we have “Country Roads, take me home...” And yes we have LOTS and LOTS of winding country roads just got to watch out for the Deer!

Daily. In my many years of driving, I have never had more cars in the household than people. We have an X3, which is my wife's DD but which I use when I simply need more cargo room. The X3 is also a much better cruiser, so the 2 does not see much highway driving.

Daily. '17 M240Xi. I bought it new and have about 53,000 miles on it already. Still makes me smile even with the few warranty issues I've had with both BMW and Dinan.

No negativity Zero, I can respect not wanting to subject your car to repeated short trips and a hazardous environment where you work. For a while with a past car, I had a 3/4 mile (just over 1km) drive to a train station. It was brutal on the exhaust system. And I do love the experience of driving my 2er again after driving another car for a while; always a rush to drive it again after dealing with a rental car!

It is for me, and I drive a LOT. Furthermore, I live in one of the snowiest cities in the United States. It bugs me that the mileage (30K/yr) I do will cause greater depreciation and the winter weather too oftentimes prohibits spirited driving. But those times that do allow some fun make it all worthwhile. The 240i with x-drive and snows is more than capable of driving in all but the worst of snowy conditions. I've had it for less than two months, but enough time has passed that I can say with certainty this is the best car I've ever owned. I'm utterly smitten with the thing.

Kevin,

I specifically purchased the M235 to replace my aging Audi B5S4 as my DD.

I have a 95mi RT commute when I go to my "home office" here in CT and I must say that I have absolutely no regrets getting the 2 Series. It is a real treat to drive daily. It will see autocross and track duties in 2019 as well as continued DD support. After nearly 6 months of ownership and 8,000 miles, I can safely say that I made the right choice, for me. Good luck with your decision making process.

I'm in Utica, so not quite as much snow as you, but still average 90" a year. I agree, it's no fun to drive when you can't exploit it. That's why I drive a Subaru most of the winter. I've only put 1500 miles on the 240 since November. I make up for it in the good weather though.

Thanks for the kind words, and thanks to everyone else for the replies!

I will definitely agree that stepping away from the car for a few days and getting back in it is such a wonderful feeling. Love this car! To many more miles everyone!

My 2er is my daily. I trade with my wife and take her X4 35i once or twice a week. Quickly approaching 70K miles on mine. Might be time for an M2 or M4.

The M235i used to be my daily driver; when my wife got the X1 I took over the Clubman- my reserved spot is a little tight and I run some risk of the car being vandalized by unhappy "customers." The Clubman also averages 35-40 mpg depending on traffic. That said, I try to also drive the 2er and 3er to work at least a couple of times per month.
