Intermittent Check Engine Light

Check engine light comes on and stays on until engine shut down. Restart and it comes back sometimes but not all of the time. NO Codes when I use a hand scanner. Thoughts?

Did you ever tried to read the codes when the CEL is on ? What kind of reader are you using (not that i'm an expert).

is it after you punch it?

is it when your driving it really hard?

is it when you are low on fuel and turning?

please provide more background.

Upon start up only

You'll have to look up the code but the only thing that comes to mind with a CEL at startup would be the intake. Did you check that everything is connected properly ?

No code displayed but I did a clear codes anyway and it hasn't come back.

Was the intake recently installed ? That could explain it I remember my N54 had a CEL a few times after installing the intakes.

guarentee its intake related. Even if its stock, sometimes if you rev it a bunch you can get it, or just randomly get it. Probably worth spraying some cleaner on the sensors.

Installed about a month ago without any issues. Dry filter.

Without the actual codes I would blame the intake ! I remember N20 beeing more sensible to intakes than some other models.

I did install the Dinan intercooler after the intake. I'll check to ensure nothing was disturbed during the install.
