Looking at a set of Apex Arc-8 that are 18x9 with a 245 40 R18 with a 42et.

Will they fit a 228i xdrive?

You could run a site search on this subforum to see if a/b has done that. I'm looking at square setups for my 228, but that is wider than I've seen people say they could fit, at least w/o camber plates or lowering. Mostly seeing 8 or 8.5 wide w/ 225 or 235. IIRC, the xdrives actually have a little more clearance for some reason (different strut, I think), and I think anything that fits a 235/40 will also fit a 228/30 (but M2 is different).

IIRC Apex posted that 18x8.5 et45 square is the sweet spot on the F22? All depends on the tire, too, in regard to rubbing. Many have run the front 8.5 and rear 9.5, so I don't see why that wouldn't be the ideal setup for 90%..

18x9 et42 will fit, you'll require camber plates, though. You should run 235/40R18 on the 18x9 as it'll aid with front strut/fender clearances. The reason 18x8.5 is ideal is primarily for square fitment setups with minimal front clearance issues. Also, 235/40 are available in MANY different sizes. Next size up should be 255/35 as opposed to 245/40 as you'll have a larger outside diameter..

I'm running the ARC-08's in 18x9 et42 this year, have them collecting dust until the car comes out of storage.

What tire and size did you end up with? And how do you feel about the fitment? What is your camber and are you running any spacers? I really like the idea of a 9” wide wheel to better fit the true tread width on a 245/40 or 255/35 track tire, but I’ve found good information to be lacking so far.

255/35 RE-71's for the most part is what I use the wheels for. I have been running a 235/40 Cup2 on the front with 255 PSS's on the rear for road driving, just allows me to dial .5* of camber out for better wear. I had these tires kicking around otherwise I'd run the RE-71's as my second wheel set (not DD) and stick with my 19's on ps4s

About -2.5" on the street is the most I can get away with, without rubbing issues. I prefer the way the car feels with about -2.9* anyway, and -2.0* in the rear for almost all alignments, I don't put anough km's on the car for the added wear to be an issue anyway. I'll also be raising the average ride ride a bit this year, it should also allow me a bit more wiggle room to dial out some camber when driving the car as a daily driver.

I run a 7.5mm spacer up front to allow the tire the bit of extra clearance from the coilover spring/collar as it's pretty tight. Next option is a shorter length replacement coilover spring and I can get down to a smaller spacer but otherwise it works just fine.
