Anyone using 5mm spacers?
So I'm about to order a set of 5mm spacers to get my 18x8 ET40 flush flush with the rear fender. I came across this note on the ECS website and was wondering if anyone has 5mm spacers and can confirm that they will stay hubcentric.

If you can't get a definitive answer here, you might try an independent - say, like Pacific Motorsports 503-278-4271. Come to think of it, ECS should be able to answer your question for you. If you get desperate, I'll remove a wheel and take a picture for you.

Post from B58togo on 5mm spacer
Quote:
"I have 5mm ECS Tuning spacers with my Apex EC-7's and I'm not losing sleep over any possible negative consequences. They weigh nothing, car rides smooth, and realistically, since the wheels are around 4lbs lighter each than OEM wheels, it's a non issue. Of course, when I go to put the OEM wheels (with Pilot Alpin PA4's) on this weekend, I'm sure the spacers will be stuck to the hubs, so I'll just run them through winter. Now if you're running 30mm spacers with heavy 20's and you're slammed with -4 camber, there may be side effects." Here's a link to the thread: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1439801 |

Still no problems. I run the spacers with the EC7's April to November and with the stockers November to April.

that’s right. 5 mm are kind of dicey depending on the wheel design you use. the hubs may in fact not protrude enough to keep the wheels hubcentric.
I used 5 mm spacers with stock wheels and there were only about 2 mm on which to center the wheels which could easily have been a problem should I had hit a serious pothole or something. I can imagine I could have easily damaged the hub or the whole assembly. Just didn't inspire too much confidence. Looking at the back pad of different wheels I can imagine there may be wheels that won't work, won't center, with 5 mm spacers. It's not just how much of the hub is protruding it's also about design of a specific wheel. Last edited by x233; 03-16-2019 at 05:57 PM.. |

to be clear: there is more mm protruding but there is only about 2 mm to actually center the wheels on (where the inner bore of the wheel back pad has contact with the protruding part of the hub). also, it's a good idea to try new wheels first to see if they work with 5 mm spacers.
