230i, Uniden R3 with BlendMount and MirrorTap Installation

Making the video took some time, but the actual install was pretty painless. Put a Uniden R3 in my 230i. Looks great!

Updated Install

Today, I combined 2 BlendMount kits, to have both the R3 and BlackVue DR900S on a single mount. Used 2 MirrorTap kits, to tap into the rain sensor connector. Total power draw is around 2A, with everything on, on that 5A circuit (fuse 28). It looks great!

A bit of footage. Due to the mount position, the camera is a bit off-center. Not a big deal, however.

Great video, I just did the exact same on my 18 M2. Only issue is when I turn off the car in the garage (no alarm) it doesnt power down for close to 13 minutes...how long does yours take to power down?

Thanks! It takes around 15 minutes for the accessories to shut off in mine, as well. This is normal.

Thanks. I am new to BMW so wasnt sure if this would drain the battery, but as a factory setup and under warranty I wont worry about it...

Hi FX TR8R
After 5 or 6 months, how is the dual mount Uniden/Blackvue arrangement working for you? Can you access controls easily enough? Any power issues?

I'm thinking of doing this in my sedan, and stumbled upon your setup. Looks great!
Cheers,

Just a heads up for others who want both radar and dash cam, Escort makes a camera designed to mount in the side of their detectors and only use a single power source.

Thanks! It's still working flawlessly! I had to do a bunch of noise mitigation on the DR900S, due to poor build quality. I get false Ka Band alerts on the R3, when WiFi is enabled on the DR900S, but I have not had any iDrive errors or power issues. With everything on that 5A circuit powered on, total draw is around 2A.

Thanks for the rattle fix.

Regarding the false Ka band alerts, do you think they would still occur if there was more separation between the Blackvue and the radar detector?

Best,

It might. I think the range of the WiFi is around 10 feet. I just keep it off, unless I am transferring data.
