Looking to pickup a 2018 M240xi Convertible
Hi all,
New here and am heading to the dealer to pick up a 2018 M240xi convertible. I've had a '12 535xi and '14 740xli before so I'm familiar with BMWs but this will be the first car I actually am going to own (I've always leased my cars). The car has <8k miles on it and is CPO - the dealer said it's a BMW Exec demo in that some bigwig at BMW (based in NJ) had it and then turned it in - it seems fully loaded too. For that reason they're giving me a 2.49% APR which seems too good to be true but I spoke to the business manager and they ran my credit and confirmed the rate. It's basically free money in today's market when you can even earn that much in a savings account! Do you all think there is a risk with buying a BMW exec demo? I asked a few times if it was used for test drives/dealer demo but they insisted it was a BMW Exec and so probably driven lightly for commuting to office, etc. As I said I've never bought a car and definitely not a used car. It still has the regular warranty and obviously CPO helps but wanted to know if there's anything I should look for or be concerned about. I'm going down to dealer this afternoon to test drive and hopefully bring it home. Thanks in advance. |

No, I’d buy an exec demo - they tend to be nicely loaded. I’d inspect the car for signs of accidents/body work (or get a pre-purchase inspection from a nearby Indy) before signing the paperwork.

What color? I just took delivery of a white 240ix in January of this year and didn’t get a vert because I have convertible, but if I didn’t then would have been thinking along those same lines. Best of luck with that car or some other you choose.

Just brought her home yesterday. Going to have to wait for weather to improve to truly enjoy it but glad I got it. It's awesome. |

Couple of questions if anyone can help that are confusing me.
- there's no Active Cruise Control which is odd because this has every option and it seems limited to the cheaper 230 which is odd. - the lane guidance just vibrates the wheel but doesn't actually steer you back - there's no blind spot detection!? I don't understand this at all. I think the car has the necessary sensors for this already so no clue why it's not there. |

Yes. To my knowledge, Active Cruise Control hasn't been an option in the 2 Series ever. I don't think blind spot detection has been available on the 2 Series either. I believe you need to move up to 4 Series to get those options.

Is there any good reason for the blind spot apart from BMW deciding they want to leave it out? I think the car already has the sensors for it anyway. Seems a bit of a dick move.

I'll have to try that. I do admit I like seeing the flanks of my own car, but maybe I can get used to this new mirror position...
Actually, after thinking about it, this will likely be an issue for me backing down my long narrow driveway. I rely on those side mirrors. I've never found the back up camera as good for aligning things while backing up. |

Is there a difference between active cruse and adaptive cruse? Because my 2019 230ix has adaptive, and I love it when cruising, yes I know many people think it is to much of a nanny but I for one disagree.

I'm 6'5" so my seat is back a bit, but still, not being able to set the mirrors to eliminate the blind spot is a major shortcoming on a car at that (or any) price point.

Yes the adaptive cruise control is not available in the M240. From what I've read they supposedly couldn't fit the radar or whatever with the larger engine and different front fascia. It's complete bullshit if you ask me but whatever.

Lane departure is passive on the 2 series like other entry-level cars including X1, X2 No blind spot monitoring on entry-level models. The hardest one we had to adjust to is no heads up display. Every bmw we have owned in the past 8 years has had this feature. But, despite these omissions, we get a bmw that is the most pure of heritage. Not a bad trade at all. |
