Motor trend: Celebrity Drives a 2017 230i Convertible

I just saw this on Motor Trend and thought I'd share. Apparently celebrities can drive cars under $100k. Spoiler Alert: He likes his 2 series convertible.

But it seems like he kind of wishes it were an M240i. "It's really interesting because it's only got four cylinders, but it's turbo, so it's got really good pickup. [But] I'd like it to have a little bit more."

Old guy here. I too bit on this one, wondering exactly what I'd find. As usual, I've never heard of this celebrity. (I really do need to get caught up.)

You know, the place I come down on this subject is...wtf happened to MY 15 MINUTES OF FAME!?!

OTOH, I made a comment at the office today about the loss of Doris Day and a 30-something asked, "Who's that?" Never had even heard the name.

Indeed I must have, and quite a bit more, too.

No surprise there; unless you're a film buff, that's going back a ways. What Doris Day had to offer might not sell too well today - she was, however, the real deal.

The problem is that the definition of the word 'celebrity' has changed. Any two-bit TV actor is now called a celebrity. You no longer have to be Doris Day to qualify. She was the top-paid American movie star for a decade. That qualifies as celebrity.
Years ago, I had a visitor who told me I was famous in Korea. I repeated this to my family at the dinner table. My wife's response: this is New York.
So much for being a celebrity.

For some, the problem is that history began when they were born.

And, why does happening to have a job in TV qualify one as having a more valuable opinion about automobiles?

I think you guys are kinda missing the point of me sharing this. Motor Trend uses the title "Celebrity Drive" as a way to interview various people in the entertainment industry from music, tv and film about the cars they own and drive. It means more PR for the person being interviewed and gives fans perhaps a little more personal peak into a "celebrities" life.

The reason I shared this was because one, it is 2 series related and two, it casts the 2 series in a positive light.

By the way, I'm very familiar with Doris Day and have never seen the show this person was/is on.

A 2 vert seems like a perfectly fun and reasonable car even if you are a "celebrity". Kudos to him for not driving another typical SUV.
