Who cares? I haven't had a front plate on a car in CA since 2008.

I have lived in Ohio for 13 years and never put a front tag on my car. Still prefer the law goes away. Interesting arguments for getting rid

Aside from taking away from the aesthetics, opponents argue that drilling into a front bumper to add a plate holder devalues a vehicle. Also, bumpers on new cars increasingly have embedded technology for assisted parking and driving.
Serious doubts on embedded technology being a good argument.

But then what are the arguments for having a front plate?

Mostly law enforcement. I know our city now has some police cars with scanners that can drive down the street, scan all tags and quickly figure out who owns the cars and what they have done wrong. Everything from unpaid parking tickets, warrants for arrest, unpaid child support, anything. Also, if you are trying to find a car/criminal having "black Camry ZZZZZZ tag number" not having a front tag makes this more difficult.

As I said I have never put my tag on the front and am don't want them but there is an argument for them.

Yup. Highway Patrol squashes "No Front Plate" changes every time it comes up.

I just had a body shop fill in and paint the front plate holes, but I don't see it being an issue. Even if I get a ticket a year, I'll just consider it a fee for not running the plate.

Both TX and CA are Fix It states. I got tickets for no front plate, but just had to send a picture in with it on the car. Double sided tape works wonders, pull it right back off and back into the trunk.

In the Seattle area they have meter maids cursing the streets looking for no front plates and expired tabs. This is even in residential areas. My M2 has a front plate though I would prefer not to.

Would love to see Jersey do it but they can't even get weed legal. I got a no front plate ticket within 2 months.

And I don't have ground effects, limo tint all around or live in a ghetto area where they supposedly target... guess the cops in my old person filled zero crime town have nothing better to do.

Lots of red light cameras in TX, so that’s probably one of the reasons for the front plate, also tollways.

We have a magnetic tag in the windshield that records that record. Never run a front plate here.

Yep. There's absolutely no reason for Texas to have a front-plate requirement these days. In fact, there's a bill currently pending in the Texas legislature that would kill them -- but only for cars with a base price of $60k and over. How much sense does that make?

But FYI: Red-light camera systems almost universally shoot the rear of the car, anyway. Why? They're designed for installation and implementation in any jurisdiction, and the only way to 'shoot the plate' in any jurisdiction is to shoot the rear.

The police want front plates for a number of reasons. A big part of that is identifying crime vehicles, with the number of security camera's etc in public it increases the chances of identifying vehicles that are involved in crimes in an around crime scenes.

There has been discussion of dropping the front plate in Ontario, the police are pushing against it. That said, I'd like to take the front plate of my 993.

Been driving in California for 30 years....have had one ticket for it, and just had my neighbor who was a CHP sign it off for me. He was like " who's the asshole that gave you this ticket?"

It's worse in our lovely nation's capital. Because the DC government is so hard up over money, damn brownies/meter maids are out giving tickets for no front plate even on cars that are not even registered in DC. Ask how I know....

No magnetic tag required to run on toll roads in Texas. They can bill you by mail using the license plate registration.

Cheaper rates in DFW to use a Tolltag than EZ Pass (plate only). Also works at airports and on Oklahoma roll roads.

Well, sure, but I mean to catch the people without the tag.

They're surprisingly good. Even correctly got me for about 80% of my usage while I was on temporary paper plates.
