255 square /w apex arc 8 et38
I'm considering switching to a 255 square setup. Apex wheels say their 18x8.5 et38 is a confirmed fit with camber plates. My concern is poke in the rear... I have VMR 18x9.5 with 255 tires currently and it pokes too much for my liking. Anyone running a similar setup?

You're local-ish to Thompson BMW they're also an authorized Apex dealer among a lot of other things they sell. Call Laura and work with her, you'll 100% be happy and everything will fit perfectly. I run 18x8.5 et35 square but I'm in stock suspension, got them from her and couldn't be happier. Actually I've done 2 sets with her now EC7 on the F23 and ARC8 on the E46.

let me just chime in saying 19x9 et48 is pretty flush, with some people complaining some minor poke (BBS Dinan 19" set on their site). Note, they can run 265 tires on 1" drop.... et50-et52 is the cleanest rear ive heard of with those targets...
Converting your selection by changing offset of the Dinan 19x9 et48 which is nearly border line flush, read below. With 18x8.5 et38 you will see vs the Dinan set: - 6.35mm of rim width (0.25" from both outside and inside) + 10mm of offset ------------ 19x9 et44.65 is essentially going to be run.... equivalent to 18x8.5 et38 poke wise... thus approximately 4mm or so extra poke from the Dinan 19" set they run 265s on lowered with nearly no rub... Your tire choice of 255 will make things easier if you plan on lowering... either way unknown rub if lowered up to 1" as your 255 is 5mm less each side.. theoretically you could even afford a lowering kit.... hope that helps...... if it makes sense CONCLUSION: Expect a 4-6mm overall rim poke.... also expect a null to 2mm extra poke of 255 tire at outermost in respect to the Dinan 19x9et48 on 265s..... TIRE BRAND MATTERS ALL CLEAR stock suspension.... lowered up to 0.65" probably okay... Dinan springs 1" probably rub... calculator says : https://www.willtheyfit.com/index.ph...8-5&offset2=38 Last edited by jondagger; 05-08-2019 at 12:25 PM.. |

I'm currently on Dinan springs on my Xdrive. Drop is .5/.625. I don't rub with my current setup which is more aggressive (9mm more poke according to the calculator)than he Dinan 19" setup. Was even considering going back to stock suspension. My favorite back roads are less then smooth and some more travel would help.
Also current on Pilot Alpin PA4, looking to switch over to Pilot Sport 4S when I get everything done.

Apex states the 18x9 et42 is THE best wheel fitment, for the 1 & 2 series cars. I can confirm that they work well for me, with 255 RE71's and 18x9 et42 ARC8's, square.
You'll have an issue up front with that offset, which you'll either have to run excessive negative camber, or a less than ideal narrow front tire size to avoid bad rubbing. With the et42, you only require a small spacer up front to clear the coil seat. Will also require a bit of added camber if running larger than a 235/40 and lowered.
