I like the look of the SM-10 a lot.. I run 18x8.5 ET40 (final) up front and 18x9.5 ET45 rear and just DINAN springs. Sad to report that the rears rub on the fender liners with the DINAN supplied camber settings. That 18x9 ET42 option out back looks compelling, but I'd be worried the 18x8.5 ET35 up front would poke or rub without much front camber. I'm sure it's possible to make the 18x9 ET42 work in a square setup, but I'd need to run a LOT of front camber and this is strictly a street car (HPDE car in training, when it's old enough and I can afford to ball it up).

Appreciate your feedback. What tire type and size are you trying to run? Also, you mention running DINAN lowering springs, but do you have adjustable camber plates?

Hoping to see a pic of some FL-5s on an M235i/M240i. I'm strongly considering a 245/40-18 square setup on the 18x8.5s (suggested by Apex--thanks!), with camber plates and fender rolling (if necessary). Have to burn up the stock rubber before the changeover, though.

You're very welcome! (sorry for the delay, was on holiday) For now, just street tires are my goal (MPSS or MPS4S) and in an perfect world I'd run 245 square (stock sizes now). I don't have the camber plates at the moment, but they're on my list if I decide to run anything wider up front. I'm straying from the M3 LCA/TS mod, as I'd like to keep my wheel centered in the fender.

Also, do you think it would be possible to mill down 5mm off the 8.5" ET35 to make it ET40 or would that compromise the wheel's structural rigidity?

I had M4 LCA only initially then retrofitted M4 TS.

With both M4 LCA + TS front wheels stay in the stock position within the fender

Heres an M135i [liftback version of M235i] with M4 LCA on B14 c/o with 8" et34mm and 245/40/18 track tyres.

Taken from this thread

At the rear, I think same size tyres on more aggressive wheels [8.5" et35mm] will need big camber and major arch pull...

Thanks for posting that, Bee Pee. Any issues with rubbing? Looks like a snug fit.

Our 18x8.5" ET35 is a great candidate for a performance oriented rotatable square fitment, as it provides plenty of inner strut clearance up front so that spacers do not need to be used while supporting 245 tires nicely.

The only requirement is to install adjustable camber plates, as the front fitment will require negative camber to clear the front fenders. Not only does negative camber allow you to stuff more wheel and tire under the front fenders, it more importantly plays a pivotal role in providing more grip throughout the corners as well as more consistent tire wear. Whether you are taking the car into the canyons or using it as a weekend warrior at HPDE's, camber plates pay for themselves in the form of tire longevity.

Pick a palatable double duty alignment and the car can absolutely be daily driven, just be ready for go-kart like fun during your daily commute.

As you track the car more often in the future, simply increase your camber specifications.

Side note - We never suggest altering the back pad of a wheel, as our crush testing and certification process does not account for these alterations.

I do not have an immediate ETA on the 18x9" ET42 unfortunately, but I will work with our team to get more info for the community. It would be reasonable to say prior to next track season

Check out this E46 M3 with the new APEX 18×9.5” ET22 FL-5 wheels in Race Silver. These are wrapped with 265/35-18 Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R Tires. This setup requires 3.8° camber on the front and about 2° on the rear.

Too much front track and tyre upfront - I bet that M3 is a hoot to drive, sorry I meant drift on a circuit.

Moving on - any photos of SM-10 or FL-5 on an F2x yet ???

the fl-5 face running to the edge (like the sm-10) without the lip, would have been perfect for me. In any case when will the 9.0 et42 be out?

We appreciate the feedback! No production just yet for the 18x9 ET42, but it may be something we consider in the future based on demand
