Seafoam as Maintenance

just wondering what the consensus is of pulling the plugs and dropping some seafoam overnight as an ade to preventative maintenance.

my 20' with 7k on the clock

I always believe in an ounce of prevention

What sort of maintenance do you think needs to be done in your cylinders? This sounds like an expensive way to learn not to mess with your engine internals. The cylinder walls on the B48/58 engines are coated with (insert chemical name here) and anything foreign, including fuel from leaky injectors will wash it off and permanently shorten the life of the engine.

These direct injection engines used to get carbon build up on their intake valves back two engine generations ago (N54), it was mostly if not totally sorted by the N55 generation.

I haven't seen any cases where a B58 has had carbon build up. Sure there aren't many examples out there with 200k miles on them yet, but it's one thing that preventative maintenance can't really help with, if there's no mess, why clean it?

without verifying, I'd read Seafoam is not really a good product for modern performance cars.
I know Mercedes is absolutely against additives to oil and I think to gas also.

With all the sensors in the exhaust and the sophisticated fueling BMW uses I'd be scared to add additives. Was surprised to see BG gas treatment at my dealer.

I do all my own maintenance and wouldn’t use that on my car… Weed whacker, now thats a different story. At 7k miles, there is nothing there. Don’t worry about it and enjoy the car!

txs all appreciate the replies.

I always like to ask, I see a lot on youtube about seafoam and cleaning the carbon outta your car,

again I was not "worried" nor "overly concerned" just asking

The best way to rid the combustion chambers of carbon buildup is the "Italian tune-up." Huh? Spirited driving, revving the engine to redline.

Use a quality 93 octane gas and you'll never have to worry about carbon buildup

This has been discussed many times in this forum. Fuel in the US certified as Top Tier is always reliable. Among those, the least expensive is usually Costco, although you have to be a member to use their pumps. My wife makes a weekly pilgrimage and their price is always quite a bit less than others of equal quality.
