2 year Brake Fluid Service Needed?
Hi everyone,
I have a 2016 228i that I picked up a year ago with about 18000 miles. I've put on about 5k and just did an oil change. The car is asking for a 2-year brake service flush, I'm wondering how urgent that actually is. My pads still have some life in them (8k-10k miles) so wondering if I can go another few months especially with COVID reduced commuting, and do fluid+pads all at once when the time comes? Or does the fluid break down and really need to be changed? I know it's used for traction control and the eLSD, so I'd buy it's real but figured I'd ask. |

I read a while back in I think it was Car and Driver something to the effect that "your ABS controller will thank you for an annual brake fluid flush". I can't locate the page and therefore can't relate the context behind that idea.

Yes, have the brake fluid flushed. The dealer will do it for free if the car is still under the free maintenance agreement. If the free maintenance period has expired take the car to a reputable indie shop that specializes in bimmer. Try www.bimrs.org to find a shop in your area. Brake fluid is highly hydroscopic-it likes water. Water damages the calipers. Flush the brakes every 2 years regardless of miles.
