When to flush Brakes?

Hi guys. I recently attended my first track day in the F22. Still only have 3 track days under my belt, so I'm a complete novice. I previously changed my fluid to motul 600 less than a month ago. I'm curious how often everyone flushed fluid? My brakes worked great on track and I have a 2 day event coming up this weekend. So I'm still on fresh fluid for the past month. Probably have driven 2,000 miles on it. Would a bleed be overkill?

Your fluid should be good for at least six months unless you boiled it during one of your sessions. I do 2-3 HPDEs a year and try to get all on one fluid flush and replacement. Normally about seven months. I am sure you will hear different advice but I have a local BMW shop do mine at the first inspection of the year. Costs about $90-$120.

Never had brake fade with my 228i with the M-Sport brakes and stock pads on VIR or CMP. In Sport+ mode. Of course I am only braking from around 125 mph at the end of both straights. Driving style also makes a big difference. Ask your instructor how to protect your pads and avoid overheating. There are techniques you can use.

If the pedal's feeling fine and firm, I probably wouldn't bother. That said, a small partial bleed is such an easy job once you have the wheels off that, might as well while you're there.

I've done both extremes with this car -- no flushes for the life of a set of track pads (mostly when I was starting out like you), to flushing twice on a track weekend (when I was overcooking the blue MSport brakes). So, YMMV. Just pay attention when the pedal softens and definitely change then.

Thanks guys. I got talked into skipping the hawk pads and going with a PFC 08 compound specifically for the track. Stock pads were great in my m240i, but I also like the idea of having a set of track specific pads even if they're overkill. More confidence knowing they're only being pushed on track and more life left on my stocks. I won't have a flush kit available until after my upcoming track day, but I agree that the flush seems really simple. I just don't have the tools right now and don't want to drop $150 for an Indy shop to do it if it isn't needed.

They're not overkill. Like uprated brake fluid, they're a minimum requirement if you're putting your 3700+ pound, 350 HP car on a race track.

Concur! The first time I tracked my M240i was at Virginia International Raceway (VIR). After 3 hot laps the pads overheated and I lost a lot of braking. I switched to Performance Friction 08 pads and I can push the car as hard as possible with zero brake issues. I flush the fluid before each track weekend with Motul RBF600,

How did you like the PFC 08? I used them as well. I found them very rough when not on track, more than expected. They would create groove like marks on my rotors but they'd disappear after a hot session. They formed more so when driving on street. Besides that, I agree. Motul600 and PFC 08's were FANTASTIC. I'll be flushing before next track event and swapping the pads for track use only. Might need rotors soon as I'm at 31,000 miles on stock rotors.

I've used the PF-08 pads for several track weekends and won't use any other pad! On the street they tend to get noisy if they are neither cold or hot-warm pads squeal. I don't think,k they are hard on the rotors. I checked my rotors recently and there are no ridges on either the inner or outer radius.
