Intermittent Right Rear Turn Signal Malfunction

Very frustrating, happens then goes away, so I assume the bulb is good. Anyone else experience this?

It could be due to a faulty/melted connector, a common F30 issue. See this:

I have seen this maybe 5 times

It happens perhaps every 4-5 months. Goes away on the next ignition cycle.

After the third time, I pulled the taillight and looked at it. Connector was seated correctly, no corrosion, everything looked good. I snapped it in and out a few times, and didn't see another message for ~4 months.

I thought it was cured, but then it proved me wrong.

I mentioned it to the dealer the next time I had it in. They saw it on the log, and cleared it. The car also got a general software update at that time, not related to that specific issue, just BMWNA said do it. I asked what was in the patch, and was told, "They never tell us, just say apply it."

I haven't seen it since the patch, but it's only been around 3 weeks.

There is a SIB on the rear taillight ground cable.. The dealers are aware of it..
