Question What size are the rear deck speakers?

What size are the rear deck speakers? Are they the same size as the door speakers?

The rear deck speakers are in fact the same size as the front speakers.

They are the same size, but when I searched for upgrades (I went with the Focal IC 100 in the rear deck and the IS 100L in the front doors) I noticed that the "in-door" speakers have foam lining on them while the "rear-deck" (IC 100) and "center" (ICC 100) don't.

They are all 5".

As a non-native audiophile, now that I have been sensitized to Focals, I'm afraid I will never be able to go back to anything less!

Did you just replace the speakers with focals and leave everything else the same? Amp, subs, etc.?

Is this a 2 series? How much better is the sound?

I have a '17 M240 with the factory HK sound system. I replaced all the in-car speakers with Focals and kept the BMW under seat subs and amp. I also added a custom box in the trunk with 2 Sundown Audio 10's powered by a Sundown Amp. The system sounds worlds better. All the harshness from the HK tweeters is gone, mid-bass and midrange are greatly enhanced by the Focals, and the Sundown 10's absolutely thump. At this point, I can't imagine doing anything else. I'm very pleased with the way everything turned out.

So how would it sound with only replacing front and rear with Focals but not the subs? Stock headunit, subs, amp, and replace door and rear speakers to Focals. Would it be worth it?

It will totally be worth it. The Focals sound soo much better than the factory HK's even without changing anything else.

Crutchfield has the Focal Inside IC BMW 100L. These will fit in the doors and the rear deck. They are coaxial but perform exceptionally well. They also have the Focal Inside ICC BMW 100 for the center dash. Both of these sets are plug&play for a simple installation. You can find these on eBay as well from sellers in the UK and Germany for a better price.

If you want separates you can go with the K2 ES 100K set for BMW. This is what I used, but they require mounting rings for the tweeters in the sails. A seller on eBay has 3D-printed rings that will allow the tweeters to fit in the stock sails. This is a more intensive installation as you have to use the mounting rings as well as find a spot to mount the crossovers.

Thanks. Any other focal set with separate mid and tweeter? Kind of hate not having any tweeter in the housing.

5"...

Ummmmm, not that I'm aware!

Thought these were all 4" 2 ways (HK Stock Coaxial)...

Correct me if I'm wrong!

They're 100mm, BMWs are metric ... someone can't do conversions correctly at Focal, their specifications state 100mm and 5".

The door speaker cavities are slightly more shallow due to the whole window thing. The rear shelf can be deeper or the same as the door, that's why they may have different model codes on aftermarket speakers. Both share the same radius and mounting holes. I think BMW used the same speakers for all 4 (at least on my 676hifi).

Yes, thank you, I thought they were 4" lol (3.9 actual)

BMW likes doing things differently, hahaha...

Quick questions if you don't mind...

Do you know the depth of the door pocket at the speaker by any chance? This would help identify acceptable speakers without having to take door apart and measure

Also, the type or spec or # of the speaker connector used by BMW so I can make or find leads to connect to the system without splicing?

I'm very surprised too on how little available options there is at this size speaker, very unfortunate! Is it by design BMW has chosen or spec'd this? Why 4" and just coaxial rather than 5" which opens up the sound stage in a huge way! Bigger drivers don't have to work so hard to sound good! Lol

TIA
