Easy powered sub options?

How difficult is the addition of a powered trunk sub to the back of an F22 with Harmon Kardon? I would like something I could keep back there most of the time but take out when I need additional luggage space.

I'm a little frustrated with my audio again and feel like the Ghost woofers were a total waste of money.

Can you lift 50 pounds? Just unhook the box and take it out.

It's not difficult, but there are a few options for custom sub enclosures that tuck into the pocket in the back left corner if you are willing to spend more money and time for a cleaner install.

I've got one from musicar and it's fantastic. There is minimal lose of trunk space and there is no situation I would imagine it necessary to remove, but if need be it has a quick disconnect.

Buy the technic add a sub harness, a cheap mono amp, a good subwoofer and a box from this guy:

Take it to a good audio shop and have them install it. Takes up hardly any luggage room--especially if you get the 10 inch sub version which I have. And you can take it out if you really need the room by just sliding it out of the side pocket area and unhooking the speaker wires.

I added a compact JL. I didn't do the install, but the local shop did it quite quickly.

Murray at Visual Ice does very nice work. He doesn't advertise it but he can also make a box that holds an 8" speaker for a convertible, assuming he saved the measurements from the one he made me.

Yeah. They're still in the car but other than make the bass a little more musical the difference isn't exactly night and day. For nearly $600 you would expect dramatic differences but nope. I've had them for a year. I really hate that whole stereo.

Have you seen this thread in coding subform?

** Note, not my thread and kudos to the ppl who tested it **

I too was disappointed in the bass response of the stock HK system (and I don't even have the ghost woofer upgrade). Coded up F45 EQ curve this weekend and really makes a difference.

Yeah I was one of the first to do it. I prefer the F45 curve and have been using it all this time. It give me just enough extra with the ghosts that I haven't put a true sub in yet.

I put a powered sub (it was around 200w) in the trunk of our E46 way back, it was barely noticeable. Does your setup make a big difference in your F22? Thanks!

For me, yes it is. I'm not looking to rattle my teeth and blow the windows out. This is small box and a shallow speaker. I just wanted to feel the lower tones. I recently took a test drive in the new M240, turned up the stereo and started laughing when I realized what the difference was. For the money and not taking up trunk space it's perfect for me.
Yes it's 200W

I installed a JL 10” powered sub. I don’t know the model, I got it from Crutchfield. I got the add a sub harness from https://technicpnp.com.

It took maybe 1 hour to do the install and that was taking my time. I swear it took me longer to get the weather seal back in place. I ended up lightly tapping it back with a rubber mallet.

Follow the instructions for trunk carpet removal: . It’s really really simple.

Just a note that I didn’t find anywhere. You’ll get a low pass signal with that sub harness. So on my “amp”, I just turned the crossover up to 120hz. Otherwise, you’re crossing over the signal twice.
