Intelligent Safety, don't think it's working
so, not sure if this has ever worked,
I have apparently 544 Cruise Control With Braking Function 5AS Driving Assistant So the only thing that happens when a car cuts in front of me or I get too close is a get the red car symbol in the dash, and bugger all else. The symbol at some stage is supposed to flash and sound an alarm, I mean even if it doesnt brake , I don't know unless I'm looking at the dashboard. It's on, as the switch shows green with cruise control, same thing, doesnt brake. I've looked in the manual (see below) I set the idrive all things to on and early detection, but nothing ? any ideas Approach control warning Depending on the equipment, the approach control warning system consists of one of the two systems: ▷ Approach control warning with City light braking function, refer to page 133. ▷ Approach control warning with light braking function, refer to page 136 The system sounds a warning before an imminent collision and actuates brakes independently, if needed. The automatic braking intervention is done with limited force and duration. A camera in the area of the rearview mirror controls the system. The approach control warning is available even if cruise control has been deactivated. Symbol Measure Symbol lights up red: prewarning. Brake and increase distance. Symbol flashes red and an acoustic signal sounds: acute warning. Brake and make an evasive maneuver, if necessary. |

S'ok guys' LOL hahaha As the car is under warranty, I've booked it in with BMW, I spoke to my parts guy and he confirmed that I have 544 Cruise Control With Braking Function 5AS Driving Assistant from my vin, so ??? can't see any radar under the front bumper although I did do a number plate relocate but doesn't seem to be blocking anything, can't see any sensors and there is the camera for the connected drive |

Cruise control with braking just applies the brakes if you are going down hill and exceed the speed you set in the cruise control. Mine (2021 M240) does it all the time, it is subtle, but noticeable. Compared to our 2018 Pacifica which just keeps down shifting until you finally get some engine braking at near red line, which I hate.
The radar in the grill (which the 2 series does not have) is for the adaptive cruise which keeps you a set distance from the car in front regardless of the speed you set in cruise control. I have only seen the red car light up when on a curvy road where there was a vehicle that I would have hit if I didn't take the curve. No alarms so far. |

txs man,
As a last ditch, I actually cleant the area in front of the windscreen, removed my 407 box and even my dashcam. I checked all the settings in the idrive, it's there, I'll take a pic, it shows avoidance with breaking, but nada, I think something is broken, 4 sure. NOW, the red car thing is not even coming up. the LED does come up on start up check, but now, even when I'm driving no red car. I'll check the codes on it tomorrow, I cleared all codes and there were none this morning. Just to add, this has NEVER worked.only the lane change warning gizmo ok realoem, shows 3 devices, there is a radar, but you can't see it, the camera in the windscreen, but that also does the lane detection and the speed detection which both works and there's another module. Relocating my number plate would not have effected anything |
