$2000 blinker, ouch!

My front left turn signal has been acting up. It finally failed and I took it in for what in olden times would have been a bulb replacement.
Nope, something had melted and I need a whole new headlight unit!
$2000 later . . .
This is a 2015 235. I have had it since new with very few problems. Is this the beginning of the end?

Now you know why BMW drivers don't use turn signals!

This reminds me of a time a number of years ago when I was looking for a hatchback for the wife. Reading a review of the Ford Focus in Car and Driver magazine, the reviewer noted the headlamp assemblies were $2K a pop. That on, what, a $22K car? It's madness on a Focus and on a $40-50K BMW.

Yikes. A new assembly runs over a grand, used once’s can be found on eBay for a couple hundred. Seems like a one off, haven’t heard of issues like this before and generally the 235i and N55 platform is pretty reliable.

For headlight and tail light assemblies, I always recommend you start your search with RockAuto.com.

I saw a recent post here about new after market and they were not as expensive. I am sure there is a way to find used OEMs.

I have been using the same indy shop for decades and they will only use OEM parts.
There have been several similar threads about the taillights, but yes, this is the first I have encountered problems like this with the headlight.
Sigh!

I just had to fix a similar issue with mine. Here’s the report from my local shop, but they told me if they had to replace everything it would’ve been over $1,500. I guess I should conform to other BMW drivers and stop using my blinker. 😁
