That is horrible advice. So many people think they are being held back by dsc, when it actually helps you.

You want to run a faster lap, get real tires not street tires like PSS, real brakes - pagid or equivelant, SS hoses, racing fluid, and get practice at the track.
I concur. Nannies off for more advanced and experienced track drivers only.

Agreed... Sport+ allows some slip angle leeway to facilitate learning to manage getting a little out of shape, and giving you enough freedom to put down some good times. But it still gives you a safety net if you really overcook it. And if you're doing your part properly (particularly if you have the LSD), Sport+ barely even intervenes. And if it does, you know you need to smooth things out in that section next time... learning your lesson without the (potentially expensive) drama.

ETA: Interesting recent article in Road & Track on the subject... <link>

Nice times. An M235i ran a 2:25 at the Glen in Sport mode with all traction control on. Novice driver < 5 track days.

I don't see how turning nannies off to achieve a 2:23 would even be worth the risk, since in the end it's still an HPDE.

I guess Sport + would be the next step for that driver but to achieve a second or two... Is it worth it?

These cars are a blast to drive though, that's for sure.

With nannies off the car has a more satisfying feel coming out of the corners. With nannies on I feel "held back" in an unnatural way. Again, don't turn the nannies off unless you are totally confident in your abilities.

I ran a 2:23 at the Glen as well, square setup as well, otherwise stock. In sport mode.

Well I got down to a 2:20 at the Glen in my M235i on Sunday. 6spd. RWD. Stock Brake Pads. ATE 200 Brake Fluid. Hankook RS3 245-40R17 Square. (13 Days on them running 38 hot all around).

Super excited, had a couple 2:23s that day, I am beyond excited.
