Rumor: BMW M2 and 2-series Designed to Fit F30/F32 M3 Parts
BIMMERPOST NEWS Rumor: BMW M2 and 2-series Designed to Fit F30/F32 M3 Parts One of the most anticipated BMW models in the next few years will include the BMW 2-series coupe/convertible (which will replace the 1-series coupe/convertible). With the 1M coupe receiving overwhelming praise, its successor, the BMW M2 (based off 2 series coupe) will surely receive even more attention. Here's the latest of what we've just learned from a trusty source regarding the upcoming M2 and 2-series
What does this tell us? That the M2 will be another killer coupe when it hits the streets. Unlike the F20 1-series, the 2-series coupe and cabrio and the M2 will be coming to the North American market. The rumored timeline is 2014/2015 for the M2. An earlier rumor claims that two engines are rumored to be in the running as the M2's powerplant - a 3.0L 6-cylinder turbo with about 350bhp, similar to the 1M coupe's motor; and a tri-turbo 6-cylinder motor with similar performance but better MPG. But, we'd venture to add a turbo 4-cylinder engine to the mix. Also speculated is that it will have DCT transmission and brakes from current M3. Extensive use of CFRP would help keep the M2's weight down. Dr. Friedrich Nitschke (BMW M GmbH's new managing director) told Autoexpress in an earlier interview: “In the 1M Coupe, we have a starter car for the M Division, and we are continuing to develop this project. Such models must be sporty, and offer extraordinarily low fuel consumption. This is something we could achieve with the M2. I think the 1M Coupe proves there is room for an M2, a coupe." *Note: the photo above is just a member's render of the 2-series coupe based on the F20 1-series M-sport |

So, will the US still get a 1 series? Wagon or sedan?

Thats kind of a pretty rendering! (way better than the hatchback) whats the timeline on these? there already is a 2012 1-series coupe so maybe 2013 for the 2?

I like the render! Hopefully the M2 will come in a manual transmission. The timing wasn't right for me and the 1M but I'm keeping my eyes on the M2 development!

Good question, esquire. The hatchback is not coming, and last I heard they are not planning a 1 series sedan at all. I also can't see the US getting a 1 series GT, or "FAST", or whatever other FWD models they come up with either. So a 1 series doesn't seem likely for the US.
But a 2 series Gran Coupe might still be in the cards. |

Agreed, that render looks fantastic. BMW should just take that pic and run with it.

Seems like the M2 might be pretty similar to the (next gen) M3 save the size and weight. Which would make me lean more towards it rather than a future M3. However, please fix the Pokemon or "sad fish" eyes... (that render is much better)

Will the M2 and M3 also share motors?
Weren't these two six cylinder motors also rumored to be in the next f30/32 M3? We all know the M3 is dropping the NA V8 for a six...

Just like ///M3 timing wasn't right for me upon release. Good things happen later on for those you have missed in the passed. I am living proof. Thought I was getting an e92 M3 left with an e90 330i.... @ 19 years old(no consignee) BMW financial didnt feel comfortable to set up a loan on an ///M3. So I drove an 330i for six months, tried to get an ///m3 again. Once again, denied! I left that day with a 135i. @ 2 years later here I am! Driving something like an ///m3 jsut a little more special in its own way

That seems pretty unlikely. I am skeptical of what Auto Express has predicted for engine possibilities. SCOTT has said on this forum more than once that a 4 cyl turbo is what we can expect for the M2. It makes a lot of sense given the V8 in the M5/M6/X5M/X6M and the 6 cyl headed for the M3/M4/X3M/X4M.

It's been said the 2-series coupe will come out 14-16 month after the Hatch.. that means end 2012... beginning 2013

looks very promising..
tri-turbo 6 with great fuel economy would be nice. Even a high perf 4 would be great (Porsche is making 360hp TT boxer 4 for next Cayman/Boxer) Make it light! |

Looks like the M is rumored to be coming out right when I am going to be due for a new car. Very interested to see what they do with it.
