Steering Wheel Problem
I purchased my new 2015 M235i on 12/1/14 and after picking it up I noticed that the driving position seemed awkward. I lived with it for about a month and finally noticed the Steering Wheel was crooked (biased to the left).
While sitting in the car with both hands on the wheel, my left arm seemed to stretch out further than my right. After taking a few quick measurements, I confirmed that indeed the steering wheel was biased to the left. I took it into the dealer and they confirmed it was crooked but there was nothing they could do. They said some are worse than others. I checked various BMW forums but nothing has been discussed on this topic. With that in mind, has anyone experienced this - or - do you have any advice? I absolutely love the car but I'm so focused on the wheel, it takes away from the driving experience. I want to purchase a performance exhaust and CF wing but not sure about adding money to this car if it can't be fixed. |

Never heard of it - maybe complain to BMW NA?

I'm not sure I understand, are you saying the steering wheel isn't symetric between it's right half and left half or the wheel is not in a perfect plane in relation to the seat back or instrument panel?

Good point - The Wheel is not perfectly plane in relation to the instrument panel. So much so, that if you draw a straight line from center of the BMW insignia it hits me in the left shoulder vs. straight in the chest.

Totally get it. Good picture easy to see. And yes that seems very odd! I can't believe they won't rectify it... I didn't know a car company could produce a car with a crooked wheel and say its okay. You'd think there would be stricter regulations. It's probably still very controllable but it's your sole source of control. I'd put up a fight

I bet that the bolt that hold the steering column to the dash support can be adjusted. All the columns that i have taken apart have some movement there for fine adjustment. |

^ and even if there isnt an adjustment, shouldn't be hard for a machine shop make the bolt holes elongated to allow the adjustments.
When i saw this thread i went to check on my car. Im pretty much bang on straight. |

I don't think dealership will make any adjustment to the steering wheel beyond positioning the wheel on it's axis that may need to be done after an alignment or new steering wheel install - and usually with dealers they align the steering not by removing it but turn it to position brace it into position first then adjust the suspension to spec.
