Oh man. Sorry to hear of the bad pothole luck. I’m not far away but don’t drive 93 often in the bmw. What was the tire/wheel combo pictured?

Original M Double Spoke 436 wheel with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.

I'm contemplating getting one shaved; I measured a few spots on the blown tire and came up with 7/32" tread depth in each location. A new 4s is 9.5/32, so the tire is just under 1/2 through its lifespan at the end of 2 seasons. While I don't think I can get another 2 seasons (summer of 2020 was kind of light on travel), I could definitely get one more. I want to really examine the three remaining tires this weekend before I make that call.

I took my car to the touchless car wash today and then wiped it dry by hand.

You know how lots of things seem to take less time the more you do them? For me and drying my car, it's become the opposite. I've got to find some place in the region that will hand-wash the car while I wait.

Temps in SW OH drop into the low 30s starting Tue. night, so my "winter" tires will go on tomorrow.

I decided last year that I didn't really need winters since I only drive on dry days, so Michelin A/S 3+ in stock sizes on my 436M staggered wheels is what I'll be running until sometime around mid-April to mid-May.

Changed my fuel injectors (last week actually). Cylinder 4 was misfiring a while ago and I switched that one out immediately and figured I'd better do them all. It was the right move.

Note that the reservoir was full of Rain-X 2 in 1, which turns out to be a known cause of pump failure.
After reading this I spent a fair bit of time trying to find out which washer fluids don't have silicone. It's impossible and the product safety sheets are no help.

So no RainX which I have been using for years is a no brainer and not a problem as I am a true believer in AquaPel for front and rear windscreens. But for those that never used it before be away there are a lot of counterfeits out there. The hassle of concentrates and distilled water was not attractive to me which left out the BMW fluid.

So it's either the blue stuff or Prestone that people seem to like. But it turns out that not including the bug stuff, there are two Prestones (actually more but too hard to find), both yellow BTW. Both with Ethanol but one without Ethylyne Glycohol but is hard to tell which is better other than less is more.

Not sure it matters with our pump problem but the one without EG still goes down to -27º and the other to -34º. If it's -27 I have bigger problems here in NJ. But the no EG one, the -27º one is hard to find. AND the price for both is all over the place. Walmart seems to be the cheapest but the -27º is not in stock and twice the price for them to ship it to the store as the -34º. Again, both container labels look the same except for the temperature and the ingredient list on the back. And the Prestone 3 in 1 is over $20 a gallon. Am I over thinking this or what. Washer fluid! Not engine oil!

What I am sure of is there are enough washer pumps being replaced with people using the RainX for this to matter.

OTOH, this pump repair is probably easier than the valve cover and water pump I am doing over the next two weeks. 80,000 miles and I would rather do them on my schedule than theirs as the valve cover is leaking a bit but the level, I hate not having a dip stick has not gone under full after 6,000 miles.

Every board has multiple threads. Bob the oil guy has some too but hard to make a decision here. Anyone have any more information to add to my confusion? Thanks in advance.

You're tackling the pump & valve cover issues but find mixing water with washer fluid (BMW or Wurth Screen Wash Additive) difficult?!

I've relied upon Ray Sands Glass in Rochester, NY for genuine Aquapel: https://raysandsglass.com/.

No affiliation.

Do you have an idea as to whether the guibo cracking is time- or mileage-related, or, perhaps, due to another factor that's been identified?

As our cars are the same model year, this is of interest to me. TIA.

As far as I know the giubo being rubber helps with dampening drive line shock. There's one of each end of the shaft. Maybe the disk had a flaw in the rubber, maybe the car was launched a bit too many times, I won't judge. These cars do have a lot of power on tap after all, and yours being stg2. I don't think it's a common fail point but it's better that than a half shaft or differential.

Hopefully the car doesn't buck around anymore and feels smoother.

Also, jealous of the diff.

My car has 70,000 on the clock now, and is almost 5 years old so my mechanic thinks mileage plus the extra power is attributable.

I can count on 1 hand the number of times I have actually launched the car - while I drive in a spirited manner, I don't abuse the car with clutch drops (NEVER done one in this car) or burnouts etc.

Was just kidding btw... these RWDs aren't very satisfying to launch like AWDs are anyways.

I've heard my indy talking about giubos and where the name came from one day which led me to believe he was previously working on one. I haven't seen it come up much on the forums but there's the occasional sighting of that funny name.

Installed a fire extinguisher under the passenger seat, wasn't bmw specific or anything but actually fits almost perfect and very stealth. Very happy with it, being only a 11 dollars and at some point could be priceless.

No not difficult. Just a hassle. Spending the weekend wrenching is therapeutic. And knowing it's done right is comforting. Mixing washer fluid is a pain.

I buy the gallons and put them where my kids can get them too as they never seem to buy anything I keep in the garage. At least they say thanks. And then I remind them to check their tires as well. Both are in their mid-40s and not providing grandchildren.

But no, not difficult. If you need any it's tucked next to the tool box.

If you decide to proactively replace the pump here's the procedure I followed:
. It shows a 1 series but was substantially the same. I think removal of the front section of the fender well lining was probably not necessary.

I have nothing to add on fluid other than that I bought a few bottles of BMW's concentrate. It's nice to be able to choose dilution to match expected temps.

Door jam ppf

Made some custom cut ppf pieces for the spots on the door jam that rub against the paint. Glad I did it before the paint got any worse there (albeit it's not bad at all).
