Wrapped the steering wheel trim and gear shifter, matte black for the steering wheel and satin for the gear selector. Really like the way they turned out, beats spending 350 on carbon fiber for those parts, think they're are better interior pieces to change to carbon.

Got my Alabama winter tire and wheel set all ready for those below 40 degree days. We have very little snow and that usually falls on top of icy roads so nobody drives in it. We did have a three week period that it never got above 20 degrees once. This just means I'll be running Michelin Pilot Sport AS4s and give my Pilot Super Sports a break for the winter.

Over the weekend, the local BMW club organized a backroad cruise as the last hurrah before winter hits. This one was led by a guy with a lead foot who set the pace significantly faster than the last few runs.
Time for me to swap on the winter tires and get around to planning next year's mods. Last edited by 230iZTR; 10-12-2021 at 01:40 AM.. Reason: I plead the Fifth |

First vacation since covid. Took a week off and went 7 hours north to Vermont airbnb in the middle of nowhere (close to Canadian border). Closest store/food was 35+ min. 15 min of dirt roads just to get to airbnb. We drove all around VT all week. Car was so dirty I had to take pics. Yes, the wheels are black.

Replaced the windshield washer pump. That's a great time. Of course it was 3/4 full when it went out.
Also did the cabin filter.

I used to do night TSD rallies in all sorts of cars AWD and RWD on all sorts of roads gravel and dirt "back in the day".
First thought was: I still got it. Second thought was: When I bought the car I really needed an AWD car for my stable and it killed me buying a car known for its RWD fun in AWD version (and paying extra for it). But so far I did my first autox a few months ago (in this car) and now some gravel and dirt roads and the AWD is very balanced. My old race cars were Eclipses and Talons and those handled like FWD and you can just get on the gas early and use the AWD and hope the center diff doesnt mess up your carve. This car feels more like RWD even tho its not. |

Thanks, they're just some cheap Chinese replicas my indy found. I think real machined face 666m look much better. They were originally winters for my E90.
Unknown brand 18x8 et35 /w 225/35 I think squared. Should be good enough to get me through winter. |

Changed the engine drop in and cabin air filters at 55kkms, they're super cheap so why not. They weren't too dirty, maybe the PO changed them once, but now I have a baseline.
I PMed you SoftShoe about the wheels, I'm not vouching for their quality, they see a lot of salt and are starting to bubble on the inside barrel after ~3 winters. |

Yeah, I get it. I once drove from the Bay Area to Nashville in 32 hours, and on another occasion from Denver to the Bay Area in 16 hours. Rolling up miles in a BMW is remarkably easy.
Mind you, I was yawning a bit at the end of the Nashville run. The person awaiting my arrival snapped me right out that, though. In the case of the Denver to SF run, I left after breakfast and got home in time for a late dinner reservation. An M6 made that relatively easy for this driver. For really significant miles-in-a-minute, I bow to forum member BEM-S4 - who, IIRC, has a very impressive cross-country run under his belt. So yeah, if you want to roll up the miles in a short space of time, this is a great country in which to do it. It doesn't hurt that we have great cars in which to do it, either. I'm in the middle of a So. OH to VIR trip, returning via the Blue Ridge Parkway. However, I take it easy now - no more 1K+ mile days for me. I'm just an old guy toodling along trying to stay out of everyone else's way. Except when the *!)$#&%s in front of me won't move over in a timely manner - then, I take the gloves off.

I joined the windshield washer pump replacement club
60000 miles 2015. Right on schedule I guess. 4 hours labor, $35 OEM part.
Note that the reservoir was full of Rain-X 2 in 1, which turns out to be a known cause of pump failure. |

When I left my vehicles outside year-round, I needed to apply it 2X per year; now that they're inside 24X7, a once-yearly application works pretty well. I put it on late each fall.

Wheels ECS Tuning, Alzor 030, in brushed black: $652, Tires Michelin Pilot Sport A4S staggered: $860, E-bay TPMS set: $35. Knowing you can now drive safely when the temps dip below 40 degrees and stay there all winter, priceless.
Thanks to BrettKA7 for the wheel and tire suggestion. A little poke but no rubs. I did order the wheels on sale back in March and did not receive them until late August ( I think they were on the ship that got stuck in the Suez Canal ). Here is a comparison. And I highly recommend the BMW Tire Tote @12 a pair. Last edited by jzeiler4; 10-27-2021 at 02:24 PM.. |

Used a pothole on I-93 NB to separate ~3" of sidewall from the bead. For those traveling north of Boston, beware of the pothole in the 3rd lane at Montvale Ave.
It was a week or two earlier than I otherwise would have switched, but at least I was able to put on my winter tires/rims in the rain last night. Now I get to find out about the tire shortages I've been reading about. Hopefully I can get something before April 2022!
