Exterior Mod Poll

I've grown to dislike the silver OEM outside mirrors and going to swap them out.

The Car: Melbourne Red, Gloss Black Trim, Gloss Black Grills and Gloss Black Wheels for Summer on Order

Am trying to decide between:

Melbourne Red Mirror Covers or
Gloss Black Ones?

Am leaning towards the gloss black ones, but afraid its going to look to "Tonka Toyish"....Safer bet might be just to match the red body color?

CF not an option - not in our harsh climate.

I had been debating this very same question for months!!!!! Couple of weeks ago I painted mine black just to get a feel for it and will be picking up the carbon fiber covers hopefully this weekend. Can't go wrong either way!

Red. Understated. Gloss black (and the current ferric colour) not so much. IMHO of course.

I think sometimes we change things just because we can. If the cars came with body colored mirrors I guarantee you we would complain and change them to anything else! I'm guilty, too, changing mine to carbon fiber to match my M Performance accessories.

You asked, so my two cents is that black can often come off as cheap, like the very base models of many American and Japanese cars. And body color is so plain and unimaginative like most of the cars on the road. At least silver is distinctive and says, even at a distance, that this car is something's special. Audi does this with their S models.

In the end, just do what you like! Don't listen to us dweebs on the Internet!

Oh man, that was super helpful! Those first pix of the red mirrors really helped me out. I didn't recall that the red mirror cover keeps the gloss black strip along the bottom..

That's a nice classy accent that plays well with the other black trim on the car

RW Carbon caps for $200 - barely more than the IND color-matched mirrors.

Tempting and cf interior trim kit is tops on my spring list too. But two things give me pause

1). I don't have any cf trim on the exterior including my MPE tips which are chrome

2). I don't completely trust these to wear well in our harsh winter, salt and hot summer too

Yah, I asky myself why I live here too...

Agree. Just one piece of CF showing up looks very out of place. Same reason for not buying just the MPerformance shift knob. The benefit of the bodycolor exterior mirrors is the fully integrated, coordinated look. I was glad to get rid of the original black, which looked cheap to me.

Blacked out looks good on red but I'd end up doing wheels and spoiler too.

I've got mineral white and debated this for a few days as well. I went with the glossy black and am glad I did. I don't think there is anything special about the mirrors so I didn't like the idea of trying to accentuate them. Getting black caps matches the bottom half and makes them essentially disappear--especially with tinted windows and when folded up. At least that's my take on it...

I can't stand the silver covers. It looks like someone raided the spare parts bin. Go for the body colored caps.

either body color or gloss black is going to look 1000x better than the ugly ferric grey mirrors

i voted body color but it ultimately depends on what else you're doing w/ the exterior. if you're staying mostly stock exterior wise, then body color for sure. But if you add black wheels, diffuser, grilles, front lip, then black would look best

Thanks everyone for weighing-in, sharing pix etc...Cars look great btw.

I decided that with a color like Melbourne, I'd be happiest with the more integrated appearance of the body color mirror.

Its the best of both worlds to me...The more integrated look + there is still some gloss black trim on the mirror. For me that provides a more racy appearance (and will tie into my gloss black wheels this spring).

Now I gotta wait for these things to get in stock..
