all season run flats for staggered setup m235i xdrive
Hi all,
My m235i xdrive came with the staggered setup of 225/245 but these are the max summer type, was wondering if there is a recommended run flat ALL-SEASON setup for the staggered wheels? Winter is a distance but.... Thanks, Talha. |

I am not into run flats, but I'd get these...
Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP The Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP (Zero Pressure) is the Ultra High Performance All-Season run-flat tire member of Michelin's Pilot family of low profile, high-speed tires. Developed in the Original Equipment (O.E.) sizes for Chevrolet Corvette C-5 and C-6 coupe and convertible sports cars, the Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP is designed to temporarily support the weight of the car even after a loss of air pressure, as well as combine enhanced all-weather performance, wet grip and treadwear along with year-round traction, including in light snow. The Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP features Michelin's TriFusion Compound that molds three different tread compounds side-by-side using the precise capabilities of Michelin's "C3M" tire manufacturing process. The tread compound in both shoulders improves dry handling, the compound used between the shoulders and center rib enhances wet, snow and cold weather traction while the compound used in the center rib boosts wet traction. These three compounds are molded into a directional tread design (shared with earlier Pilot Sport A/S ZP tires) that features a continuous circumferential center rib (to provide communicative road feel and reduce noise on dry roads), high angle directional tread blocks (to sharpen steering response and dry road handling) along with circumferential and high angle lateral grooves (to resist hydroplaning and enhance wet traction). The tire's internal structure includes two high-tensile, lightweight steel cord belts under the tread area reinforced with Michelin's "Filament At Zero" (FAZ) technology that spirally wraps an individual strand of polyamide across the entire tread (similar to the way fishing line is wound onto a fishing reel) to increase treadwear and ride comfort while providing high-speed durability and predictable handling. Pilot Sport A/S Plus ZP tires feature reinforced sidewalls that are designed to temporarily support the weight of the car even after a loss of air pressure. |

The Michelins don't seem to be available in the stock 18" staggered set up.

i wouldn't go the run flat route.
See if you can find some dws06's in your size. they are great all season tires. I use them for my winters in ny. If you expect alot of snow, i'd go with a dedicated snow set, like a set of blizzacks.

I have mounted on my 2015 m235xi for the winter 225/40R18 and 255/35R18 on Bridgestone Blizzak WS80. They are mounted on the staggered 436 rims.

Interestingly, I see no options for any all seasons for our 718 Boxster S, which has 19-inch wheels. Only summers and winters.

They are about 90 percent as grippy as my old Bridgestone summer RFTs, and road feel is markedly better (for those complaining of numb steering; non-RFTs are critical to improve this). They're substantially quieter, too, and very predictable. For what they are, I love 'em (I've run DWS 06s on two other cars; the Michelins are better, IMHO). I've got a 718 Cayman on order and have researched tires for it. You need to bump up to 245F/275R for all-season tires; neither 235 nor 265 section widths are very common for profiles below 45. They should fit the 718 rims fine, especially since OEM 982 rims are a half-inch wider than previous Boxster/Cayman generations (It was a common for 987 and 981 drivers to run 245/275 A/Ss).

Thanks for the tip on the 718 sizes. We might be able to get by on the Pirelli summers that came on the car, since we will be running all seasons on the X5 and the 2. We have vehicle options in inclement weather and we live in Atlanta. Enjoy the Cayman! The 718 is an amazing car (despite what the purists think).

I drove the 718, a 981 Cayman S, and a 991.1 Carrera back-to-back-to-back. The 718 simply felt the most 'right' -- and by quite a lot. Purists be damned (and I consider myself one -- but I'm also a realist); it's simply a better sports car. Can't wait!

Thank you all for your response, seems like Michelin A/S 3+ is a popular choice.
Given that the car already came with a mobility kit (even tho I have run flats), I will probably choose these tires (if/when) as replacement. Given the lack of snow in the Chicago area, in general, and my proximity to public transportation, I may just leave the originals on and NOT drive when there is snow on the ground. Thanks again. Please note that Michelin recommends not driving on the MPSS below 40deg F.
