Remote Start?

Is remote start a feature available on the M240? I've looked at the control panel and such, along with the connected app and I don't see it. Or is it a subscription item?

Curious...

Unless there is a newer feature I've always been told that bmw doesn't sell factory remote starts because the car is to complicated and over engineered. Maybe some of the cars coming out on the newer platforms might finally have this option but as far as I know not on ours.

BMW used to say that too many European countries have it banned and iDrive would have to be re-engineered to do it, so they never had it until 2019.

Only some 2019 cars and most 2020+ cars will have it. Its only the ones with the new iDrive software.

So your 2017 does not have remote start. You'd have to turn to an aftermarket remote start system to get it.

If anyone has a recommended system, I'd like to know. Just got my 2 and not looking forward to a non-remote start winter.

I have a new 2020 M240i Xdrive, it has the iDrive System.

There is a video on a BMW site:

https://www.bmwblog.com/2019/10/24/v...start-feature/

So I'm curious...

First look at your iDrive version. If you have 7.0 then you may have remote start. If you are less than 7.0 then you dont have it for sure.

Never liked the aftermarket remote start for keyless vehicles that require you to have your keyfob in the vehicle... Not sure insurance will take that lightly should your vehicle be stolen.

Thank you, I will check that out. Is what I was looking to find out.

Interestingly, I received an email from the dealership owner thanking me for my purchase and to bring the car in should I have any questions regarding it's functions, lol. This may be a decent reason to stop by...

Winter is coming!

I never have had a remote start. The heated seats do a great job of instant butt warming and ditto for the steering wheel heat and hands. Of course, not everyone has those.

Confirmed by BMW Rep., the M240 does not have the Remote Start capability. Sorry, he rambled off the models that "do", but after I heard "no" it all became mumbo jumbo...

I’ve had it on several cars and I believe many of us north of the Mason-Dixon appreciated the head start on getting warm air blowing through the defroster...makes windshield brushing and scraping much easier. Heated seats and wheels also leave many body parts quite cold when temps are teens or lower. Conversely, when Summer temps bring interiors to triple digits, the AC head start is quite pleasing.

My "other car" (non BMW) with remote start: I always remote start as I walk up to the car. Hot cold or just right. I like having the motor lubed better and coolant a little warmer because I know I'm gona beat on it ASAP.

If not, I sit my fat ass in the seat, put down what I'm carrying, put my phone in the holder, set my GPS, etc. Then I turn the key and put it in drive. 3 seconds of warmup? I'd rather have the remote start start the car while I do all that other shit then I have 2 min of warmup before I'm on my way.

I'm guessing all future BMWs will have the feature as a subscription or something that can be added through activation. It's all going to be software and wireless - meaning better range.

Only the newer "G" cars have this feature or will have it soon. The 2GC will be the first "F car to get it.

I've had a 2020 330i for a loaner for 4 weeks. Took me a while it figure out how to turn on remote start in Idrive but once I did, its great. Miss it so much on my 2017 m240. 3 click of lock on the remote, and the car: starts up,turns on HVAC, turns on heated steering wheel, turns on heated seats (if you have it set to do so in Idrive based on outside temp), and I think also turns on rear defroster since the snow melts off the window by the time I get out there.

It would be great that maybe the Body Control Module could be swapped out and provide the function...? Seeing as functions not relevant between the series could be enabled/disabled via Bimmercode or similar. I know I'm simplifying it all... Just would expect more from the car's price point entry vs competition in the same market. But is BMW after all, lol

I had this installed. Not many dealer sin the US, but my local guy Emailed them and then became one. It is pricey with the Mobile interface, but living in Wisconsin I would not do without. Only thing I didn't like was the seat heaters don't retain last setting once the car goes to sleep it's gone. However, there is a coding option and it works sweet. That alone paid for BimmerCode which is a sweet app BTW. If you have any other questions on Eurostart let me know I can try to answer. Any also BTW my M240xi is a 2020 and no factory remote start. I actually wasn't going to buy this car until I found Eurostart.

Yeah.. this was a big deal for us initially. The BMW "Genius" said it may be available in 2021, but not available now. I've also read about the "auxiliary heater" which is common in non-US. Basically a separate heater that runs without the engine. Not an option in the US, but you can have it retrofitted, and supposedly, you can "code" it to work with Connect. We'll deal with it for now, but definitely an aggravation. I was quoted 1600+ bucks for an aftermarket one on a 4 Series, so I imagine the M240 would be the same.. plus you lose a key fob.. seems like a huge security issue there, plus add another 2-500 for a 3rd key fob?

I can remotely heat up or cool my car using the BMW Connect App on my 2020 M240, but that is going to kill off my battery in no time. Without remote engine start its near pointless an option.

Key fob needed. Prices vary but > $350. So yes pricy but.
