Does anyone have a stock catalytic converter I can borrow for emissions?

(Chicagoland area)

EDIT:

I was able to reset the drive cycle and pass last week with the catless downpipe. Just had to reset the checked setting back to 'OEM CAT'.

Damn, I am near you but no stock CAT. I have a VRSF 200 cell high flow downpipe that throws intermittent codes… Luckily I was able to clear them, drive enough, rescanned and then took it in and passed. I was told you can have two of the sensors reading “not ready” and still pass.

What downpipe do you have?

I have the fabspeed downpipe..I don't think there's any chance I'd make it through even after a driving cycle. I don't have any CELs but I have also yet to see if say "ready"

You should be good, assuming you aren’t bypassing the codes at all. Is your DP completely cat less or a high flow?

If you aren’t getting a CEL, you should pass emissions. If you have a scanning tool you can check the I/M Readiness and it will show either “n/a” “ready” or “not ready”. I passed with one reading “not ready”, they say you can have up to two saying this.

I had a CEL and had to clear it…. Then continued driving and scanned until I knew I’d pass. Swung through emissions with my exhaust reeking and no issues. Happy to help or provide more info. This is the scanner I’ve had for awhile: https://a.co/d/dw3b7Za

Here's what my current scan tool shows..I wouldn't pass right now correct? Also my dp is completely catless

Ah, yeah I don’t think there is any way to pass with cat less. You are correct, that would not pass, the “incomplete” would have to say “complete”. You may be able to find a used cat to buy online somewhere. I ended up selling my to a recycler for like $500.

Or, drive without the registration, which the ticket is less than the 1 yr sticker! Considering not renewing this year!

weird lol, fabspeed cat is one of the best if not the best aftermarket cat.. If there is a cat that can pass, that should have been fabspeed.

Too bad you are not in Cali and not b58, I do have the stock downpipe

You will throw a CEL with a DP that is de-catted. The high flow 200 cell ones you can get by with.

I understand that, and like I said above, out of the high flow catted downpipe, fabspeed is probably one of the best if not the best. You should not throw a CEL with a functioning fabspeed.

Unlike vrsf high flow downpipe which is shit and usually will throw CEL.

Not all 200 cps build the same

Ah lol, yup. On the other hand, I am so jealous of you, passing emissions with VRSF..

I am in CA, so even though I have AA catted dp with no CEL, it probably wouldnt pass emissions...

They don’t do any sniff of the exhaust here, just use the OBD port to check the status of everything. I pull up in there with my exhaust reeking and passed like 2 months ago. I do get an intermittent CEL with the VRSF… Timing was on my side!

Good....... put it back to OEM. This is the price to own a BMW. Keep it stock otherwise you can't afford to own one. Any mods are waste unless they are OEM Certified.

Anything else is garbage that downgrade value, even aftermarket wheels. Good luck.

Haha, that is a very extreme view..

Firstly, not passing smog unless with oem cat is the price of owning ANY car in California.

Obviously we can afford to own one without keeping it stock since that is literally the case.

Also mods are subjective. Do it if it makes you happy, don't do it if it doesn't. Majority of us, I would like to say 99%, but that is pulling number out of my ass, don't buy a 2 series as investment, so to be honest, most don't worry about downgrading value. That is the cost of owning a 2 series.

Regardless of one's motives or desires, the fact remains that mods almost always lower the value of any vehicle. That is the simple truth. Mod if you want to but not with the expectation that the money you spend is an investment. Quite the opposite is generally true.

meh, depends on the mod. I am sure most folks would agree that a quality high flow DP that doesn’t throw a CEL and an upgraded aftermarket charge pipe are highly attractive for the 2 series.

Let us know when your OEM chargepipe blows. Then let us know again when the OEM chargepipe blows again. There are a ton of aftermarket parts that are not a waste and are higher quality than OEM..

I don't know. A set of Forgeline wheels would certainly increase the value of my car by, oh, I don't know, $500?

We don't mod cars with value in mind. We mod cars with FUN and enjoyment in mind.

Also, hows that stock chargepipe working out for you? Stock coolant overflow hose? Plastic Coolant waterneck from the engine block?
Pull your head out of BMW OE's ass. And you'd see their shit stinks every now and then too.

I think that sums it up perfectly. If it didn't, I'd be crying myself to sleep every night over the large sum I've dumped into modifying a bunch of my cars over the years.

Man, I want a set of Forgelines so bad I can taste it!

While true, I bought my M235i for ~$27k in 2018. It's not that much money. Anyone that buys cars other than Pcars and exotics isn't buying for an investment. I mod however I please while the car is mine, then take the mods off and sell them separately when I sell the car.

I've got my oe catin the garage but I'd be too worried about not getting it back. I need a $1500 deposit or whatever it costs to replace it.
