Hit by the B58 low coolant at about 16,000 miles…
So I had the low coolant light come on around July 12, visibly verified low coolant and call the dealer. The earliest I could get in was today and they recommended I top off the coolant. Between both tanks I had to add more than 3 cups of coolant to get it above the minimum indicators in both tanks (most went in the main tank). Before bringing it in today I verified the coolant was again below the minimum indicator.
Dealer pressure tested and it passed. There is no visible coolant leaking anywhere, including around the coolant cap. They kept it overnight to "QC" it.? Thoughts? Something else for them to check? 2021 m240i convertible. I read it could be nothing, leaking cap or being consumed by the turbo. I'm not sure the dealer would notice the internal leaking in the turbo. |

The car is still at the dealer. They added some dye to try and see where the coolant is going, but since it's a pretty slow loss, I suspect I'll be getting the car back with a "call us when you get the warning again." That's fine, except it seems to be very low before the warning comes on. |

Is really not hard to figure... If there's nothing wet, no puddles or wet surfaces on or in around engine, then it's being burnt, consumed! It doesn't magically disappear in a sealed system!
Pressure tested and passed huh? Or within acceptable "tolerances" lol... I would request a compression test on cylinders, seeing as the cooling system passed hahahaha |

A coolant cap that allows steam to escape due to the pressure release mechanism in the cap not holding full pressure is often the culprit, but there won’t be any liquid present, just a small whiteish trace of residue. The system pressure test won’t detect it due to the cap being replaced by the pressure test device.

My current car is my 4th BMW, and every one of them has required a small amount of coolant top up now and then. I just assume a very small amount is lost to the pressure venting over time, even when it is functioning correctly.

I usually check mine every other month if I remember to and usually never in the winter. One random time the main reservoir was under the marker and it took 250ml.. about half a pint to fill. Since then it's been steady at full.
