Can a cop pull you over from oncomming taffic?

Just as the title says, can a cop pull you over if hes driving towards you and U-turns?

Yes.
Just saw it happening a week ago.
There was a cop in front of me and then some suv from on comming traffic just flies by.
Next thing, the cop made a u-turn. (with light, siren)
So i'm pretty sure they can.

I've actually wondered if they'd ever bother trying if you were caught weaving through traffic and it would take them a while to make a U turn.

If a cop car is equipped with built in radar its usual on the front and back of the car, most of the cops that have this run around all day with it on. Just about any radar detector will pick this up and most run moving built in radar run KA band, the Highway patrol in my state usually run around with this on all the time and my V1 can pick them up miles away.

Absolutely they can. that's one of the ways radar works. they can "clock" you going in opposite directions, and while they are stationary. they cannot however accurately hit you with radar while in motion, going in the same direction. This is where they get you by "pacing" behind you, or by the air.

Laser is a bit different, but you got hit by radar. Don't bother trying to fight it imo....you will waste your time and perhaps money (lawyer).

Only a small fraction of cars have built in radar units on the cars. Most are issued handheld radar or laser guns since its just plain cheaper.. But the built in systems can get you even if you are both going the same direction, its measuring how fast his car is closing on you or how fast your pulling away then that gets calculated by the cop cars current speed.

In one of my local cities none of the cop cars have built in radar and they rely on motor cycle cops and hand held units to enforce traffic. But most states highway patrol I would say 80%+ chance of them having built in radar.

Wait, so does the ticket say your speed was measured with a laser? If so (and if the cop was moving) by all means fight it. A laser can-not accurately be used in a moving vehicle. The guns are heavy and a if his aim is off by a fraction of an inch at the gun, it could result in him being 5-10ft off a block away - meaning he could clock the car next to you.

If he got you with radar... well, less likely to get away with it. That can be used while the cop is moving towards you; and unless the road was extremely busy, and there were lots of other fast moving cars, it'll be tough to get out of.

ahahah i remember when i was in NYC, and i was by RCS Experience, across from the sony square, and there was a sign that said no right turn from 3pm-5pm, and no shit, cars just kept following eachother and making the turns as a cop on foot just stood on the street stopping them and passing out tickets ahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i swear he had the entire sub street lined up with cars, at least 8 cars getting tickets all at once from one cop. it was fucking great, the people were cussing out the officer and he was just like "fuck you, you still gonna get the fucking ticket."

my god. what a day that was.

In Wa State it is the exact opposite of what you're saying. Probably 90% of law enforcement have built in radar....including the local Sherrif depts in tiny little towns. The reason I say they can't get you going the same direction is because I got pulled over 4 weeks ago...buy a sherrif going the opposite direction, and I talked my way out of it. I then asked "does your radar work if you were traveling behind me"....and he said "no, only in opposite directions while I'm in motion". I'll try and find some info on it to see if he was pulling my leg or not.

EDIT: Ya that guy was in fact pulling my leg....it looks like they can nail you with radar going the same direction. Crap. I need to start slowing down.

Perfectly legal. Why wouldn't it be?

I got nailed doing 95 in a 65 in 2004 (would have been a 55 had it been about 500 ft ahead). This sheriff was driving on the opposite side of the hwy separated by a large grassy area.

She actually pulled me and a car following me over (which I had no clue was behind me as I had flown by them 20 miles before and no one was on the hwy). She walked up to my window, said "I'm writing you a ticket for doing 95mph." I said, "Yes ma'am." I was back on the road in less than 5 minutes.

My radar didn't go off, but she had to have been using a newer laser at the time, as I was going as fast as she stated.
