Check out your sunroof delete car?
Greetings, everyone! New to forum after doing a BMW drive experience at PBIR a while ago, and with the bad influence of a friend with a highly modded 328.
The most fun car I drove at the track event was the M2. It's a bit more than I want to spend so I'm looking at the M235 and M240. The problem is headroom is a bit short, and a no-go with a helmet on any sunroof-equipped car. So, is there anyone in the Atlanta-ish area with a sunroof delete ("slicktop") car that I can sit in? I'd be happy to meet you at your convenience in a public place, buy you coffee or a quick meal for the hospitality, and would wear a mask given the pandemic. Thanks! |

Appreciate the offer! I have sat in a few sunroof cars and it's just a little short on headroom, so really just need to sit in a slicktop car and see how it feels and what clearance there is. From what I've read the difference is 1-2" and that I think will be enough.

My son who is 6'2" and has an above average torso length has no problems in our sunroofless M240i with a helmet on. As another reference point he is too tall for an NB MX-5 when wearing a helmet unless the seat rails are removed and the seat is bolted directly to the floor - we did that for one he owned.

I am 6' 2.5" with long torso.
I don't fit in with sunroof. My head touched the roof. I ordered my car with sunroof delete and I fit just fine. If I wear my helmet, then it touches the roof. (not bothered too much with helmet anyway) I do sit very upright for the track/autocross, FYI. I asked BMW NA before I ordered my car and they 'measured' that no sunroof will give 1.9" more headroom. It took them more than a week to answer that question. lol |

Thank you, TajoMan. The real world experience is great to know.
Slicktop cars seem to be hard to come by, and nearly impossible to search for in Autotrader, Autotempest, etc. I'm 95% sure I'll fit but just want to check for sure. |

I have a no moonroof M235. I'm 6' 2" with long legs. I have about 3.5" between my head and the roof.
Unless you're ordering an M240, finding one of these cars without a moonroof will be difficult. I have a buddy that works for BMW. For the hell of it, we checked to see how non moonroof M235s and M240s had been ordered in the US (2015 to 2018). There were 17 M235s and 5 M240s. My M235 6mt is one of 8 M235s ordered in the US without a moonroof. If you want a hardtop, an N55 M2 is your best bet. |

I'm only 5'9-5'10 and it's damn tight with a helmet on. Wish I'd deleted the roof, more so for the weight savings than the clearance.

Mine is apparently one of the five M240s. Who knew.

Chuckable-have you searched for a used OG M2? Someone correct me if I am wrong but you will know after sitting in one since it has the same seats, same roof and they did not come with sunroofs back then.

I will keep you updated. Mine is a 2017 CPO Mineral White with black interior (and obviously slicktop), 6mt, fully loaded minus the lane keep thingy so that includes backup camera, parking sensors, wireless charging, heated seats/steering wheel, comfort access, nav, apple carplay, etc. Also the original owner ordered it with MPE with carbon tips, carbon fiber mirrors, black kidney grills, and body painted side skirts and front splitter (all original BMW parts that were installed at port). Car is completely stock sans the Apex Arc 8s for my summer tire set and I have the stock wheels on winter tires. Currently at 33,XXX miles and the original warranty runs through Dec 2021 and the CPO (unlimited miles) Dec 2022. I also have maintenance coverage through Dec 2023 or 100,000 miles but I pay for oil changes in between intervals as I don't like how long the "official" oil intervals with BMW are. Most likely will be looking to do something in the spring when more Cayman T's show up at dealers.
